Meet Anna Zapata of Dallas Healing House

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Zapata.

Anna, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After working as a licensed professional counselor and yoga instructor at a rape crisis center for 4 years, I was ready to start my own business geared towards holistic healing for those struggling with life’s many challenges. I previously explored different counseling practices focused solely on talk therapy, but I wanted to create an innovative practice that takes emotional AND physical healing into account. Because we are holistically affected by traumatic experiences, it makes sense to me to provide holistic treatment strategies. That is why Dallas Healing House provides our clients with approaches such as trauma informed yoga and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR).

I never liked working places with sterile atmospheres–office carpet and florescent lighting are my idea of a therapeutic nightmare! At Dallas Healing House, I’ve created a space I believe is more conducive to healing. We have yoga mats, yoga cushions, textiles, plants, and a tea station. With an emphasis on hospitality and comfort, it is my hope clients of Dallas Healing House find it a bit easier to settle in and commit to their therapeutic work.

Today we have a team of three counselors with different interest areas and specialties.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Creating a business is a lesson in patience. That has been my biggest struggle throughout this process. I have learned to remind myself that creating this type of practice takes time and building something great does not happen overnight. Rather than wearing myself thin out of fear and anxiety, I try to push myself and hustle with the goal of helping individuals tap into their own innate capacity to heal, grow, and transform their lives.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Dallas Healing House – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Dallas Healing House is a group of licensed professional counselors specializing in generalized anxiety, post-traumatic stress, depression, and more. We are known for our mind body treatment methods such as trauma informed yoga and Eye Movement Reprocessing and Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. EMDR uses eye movements to help digest symptoms of trauma and anxiety, while our individual and group yoga assists clients in regulating their nervous systems. We also contract with a nature therapist located on a farm where she provides equine therapy and nature therapy. At Dallas Healing House we believe in creative, evidenced based treatment methods to help you heal in the most efficient and effective way.

I am most proud of our team of counselors and the innovative treatment approaches we offer clients. I am so inspired by our counselors’ commitment and dedication to helping clients recover from life’s challenges. Working with a group of well trained, warm, creative, and ethical counselors has been my favorite part about creating this practice.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I want to continue growing our practice by reaching more clients and growing our team of counselors. In the future, I would like to continue hiring counselors with different specialties and different treatment approaches, because I believe that is how we can be most beneficial to our clients. Different perspectives and therapeutic approaches are invaluable when it comes to helping our clients holistically, and I want to be able to continue to provide that to clients of Dallas Healing House.

In the future, we are looking at incorporating more mindfulness workshops, yoga groups, and we are even looking at doing some work with a local massage therapist!
