Meet Dr. Annie Quach of Aspire Eye Care in Wylie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Annie Quach.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Dr. Annie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My parents immigrated to the United States to ensure a better life for their children. They had nothing when they came here and through sacrifices and an amazing work ethic opened their own business. They were laborers though and spent sunup to sundown managing their business. They instilled the philosophy that your rewards will be a direct reflection of how hard you work and even more so when you own your own business. However, they were constantly working, seldom took time for themselves, and never saw their impact on the community. Cliché and selfish perhaps, but I wanted to have a direct impact on someone’s life to make my career something I would look forward to daily while still allowing time for a family. I knew I wanted to be in the medical profession, did not want to be on call, and found eyes fascinating. With this goal in mind, I graduated cum laude with my bachelor of science from the University of Texas at Austin where I explored my passion for eyes and then received my summa cum laude doctorate from the University of Houston’s College of Optometry where I honed my skill.

There is nothing like the immediate gratification of helping someone literally see and experience the world in a way they have not before. My first job was as an associate doctor at a multi-doctor, multi-location private practice where I mastered my skills as an eye doctor and learned how to treat all types of ocular conditions. As a newly graduated doctor, I did not have to worry about the inner workings of operating an office and focused everything in learning about ocular disease and managing patients. After 5 years in private practice, I knew I wanted to have more reins on the operational side of the business and desired an office that focused more on my core values of patient satisfaction and quality experiences at affordable prices. I wanted to create an office for people like my parents who work hard for their money but still deserve the best care available. My husband Don and I decided to move from everything we knew in Houston for the last 9 years to Dallas and set up our business closer to family. Since we’ve opened Aspire Eye Care, our patients have been wonderful and I am still overjoyed by helping people literally see the world every day.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Obtaining my degree took plenty of sacrifice. I had to take out full loans for tuition and housing that I am still paying off, crammed for exams and proficiency tests every week, and sacrificed some relationships due to the late nights and commitment to my studies. The path towards becoming a doctor is thankfully direct at least. After graduating however, I realized none of my classes focused on how to operate a business as a doctor. With no prior knowledge, the initial struggle was taking the leap and believing I could own and operate my own office. I was not familiar with the nuisances associated with being an employer such as staffing, quarterly taxes, insurance credentialing, and the behind the scenes paperwork. After figuring all that out, our biggest challenge has been just getting our name out there. People are often comfortable with familiar places and are hesitant to try a new office – especially in relation to health services. We are still trying to grow a solid patient base and become the go to office for eye care needs.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Aspire Eye Care – what should we know?
Aspire Eye Care is an independent optometry office located in Wylie, a city in northeast Dallas. Voted as one of the best small towns and best places to live, my husband and I knew we wanted to establish roots in this growing city. I am the optometrist and owner of the company responsible for examining patients, making sure the office runs smoothly, and most importantly making sure our patients experience the best eye exam possible. My husband Don helps selflessly with all the behind the scenes needs such as advertising, IT, and moral support on those days that I may question if opening my own practice was the right thing to do. As an optometrist, I help patients see to the best of their ability in either glasses or contacts, help treat and diagnose emergency eye conditions, and help patients manage more chronic eye conditions such as dry eyes, cataracts, or diabetic retinopathy. I treat and diagnose several types of eye conditions and specialize in contact lens evaluations.

We are known for providing the best quality eye care at affordable prices. We believe that everyone deserves the right to have the best vision care without compromising service or quality. I am most proud that people often say that I have provided the best eye exam they have experienced and I have explained to them about their eye in more depth than ever before. I strive for patients to have a true understanding of how their eyes work and educate them on how to keep their eyes healthy.

What I believe sets me apart from others is that I spend the time necessary to make sure all my patient’s concerns are addressed. I ensure my patients do not feel like a number, but rather that their time is appreciated. My goal is to make my patients eager to come back yearly and leave with a smile on their face. Thankfully I have a wonderful team and their enthusiasm and concern for customer care being number one keeps patients coming back.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My passion is absolutely the key to my success. I am foremost passionate about eyes because I believe they are one of the most important parts of the body. Eyes allow a glimpse into a person’s body that tells a story about their health and their life. I am passionate about my community so I can serve them and provide to them the best eye care possible. I am passionate about my family so I tirelessly navigate this entrepreneurship to the best of my capability to provide for them. This passion then resonates with my patients and keeps them coming back while also keeping me excited about my business every day.
