Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Moreno, Catalina Querida, Eric Dallof, Matt Bagley, Jeremy Hijort, Jessica Waffles & Modesto Aceves.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m a Wood Craftsman by trade turned Artists.

I started hand scraping on Stairs for stair cases with custom staining which led to chiseling on furniture and other textured projects like the wall’s, base boards, pillars and trim in the Big BoB’s steak House at the Omni Hotel in Dallas Texas in 2012.

One of my first pieces that I Hand chiseled was “The tree of Life”, I Hand Made a solid Maple desk and I damaged one of the legs so I created a plank with the “trees of Life” carved on the plank and used it as the third leg.

I came across one of my techniques of carving by accident at a fair helping a friend, I designed, cut out and pasted a piece of vinyl on a 10″x10″ piece of wood and proceeded to sandblast the exposed wood and came out with my first sandblasted Art carving called “Panda Parade” 10 minutes later someone offered to purchase it and so the sandblasted Art carvings began.

I have sandblasted over 100 different Art carvings that I have designed or collaborated with other artists or have carved for my personal collection, pieces range from 10″x10″ to 20″x24″ that I now have displaying and for sale at the multiple restaurants and stores in DFW.

Three years back I created a group called the “Brewing Arts” a Collective of Artists where we gather our ideas and create and attend Artshows together as a collective. – https://www.facebook.com/Brewing-Arts-201089270491897/

Between Artshows, Galleries and Art projects I’ve busy and I’m still working on my website but I am always ready to accept commissions to bring your ideas to life in a carving!

“Wood has always been clay to me, anything is possible and Wood has Art hidden you just have to dig in.”

Has it been a smooth road?
When I first Began I had a million and one ideas of the things I wanted to create but I didn’t even know how to read a measuring tape not to mention how to use a table saw, routers, or how to begin using software to design my images but it didn’t stop from buying the equipment and tools, I would get up at 6am and work thru trial and error till 1 am for months until I learned how I needed to use these tools, I would work as an apprentice for multiple companies learning and watching how I could implement this knowledge, I would work for free before my shifts started and after they ended to learn more,

I once met an old woodworker that told me “a man who works with wood and continues to learn his craft and loves what he does will be great! But the man who does the same but learns how to add other mediums to his trade and masters it…..well that’s an Artisans Artist”

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Custom Textured Wood story. Tell us more about the business.
My business started out in custom Hand scraped and stained stairs, doors, furniture but it evolved to Art Carved work from large custom jewelry boxes, custom made chess tables, one of a kind family heirlooms to carved and sandblasted Artworks that have been commissioned from a memory that they can have brought to life and see and feel everyday or put it away as a form of therapy.

I am most proud that I keep my prices ridiculously affordable and I keep in contact with my customers all thru the customization process.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am leaning towards a line of animated wood Art.

Pricing:

  • 20″x24″ carvings are $180 if ive already created it , i can duplicate it
  • To create a new draft of the image thru a drawing it would be an extra $40
  • Costs varies on detail of the carving
