Today we’d like to introduce you to Antoinette Youngblood.
Antoinette, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Hello, my name is Antoinette Youngblood and I am originally from Shreveport, Louisiana. I relocated to Texas in 2004 to a small town called Wylie Texas where I lived with my uncle Lue Webster who is also the owner and founder of Scrugga Bear Creations an Embroidery company located the Garland Texas.
Not only was he an uncle but an amazing father figure as well which is where I get most if not all of my drive, determination and structured mindset from. Throughout my high school years from 2004 until graduation in 2007. I started off in high school just playing around with close friends and styling their hair but never really thought too much about it outside of just fun and as a hobby. But in 2006 with all of my fellow classmates anticipating graduation I honestly never had any intention of attending college so I decided to attend cosmetology school in the meantime until I figured out what I wanted to do in my life.
Upon attending cosmetology which was not a smooth road at all I started to realize that this was my passion. It was something that just came naturally to me. So after completing cosmetology school, I decided to continue learning and polishing my skills in my career. Upon doing so I started to receive all kinds of recognition from my former cosmetology teachers to different salon job offers from some of the top salons in the Dallas, Fort Worth area.
Amongst receiving job offer after job offer I knew deep down inside I never wanted to work for anyone. As blunt as that may sound not to be taken wrong which I am very thankful for every opportunity and offer that I received but I also knew that I had goals and dreams and I felt like I would delay them by working for someone else. The way I looked at it, God had blessed me with a talent and I decided to use that as well as my faith in him as my own stair steps to achieving all of my goals.
From 2009 to 2019 I have worked consistently and hard on perfecting my craft and remaining focused on becoming an entrepreneur to not only accomplish my dreams but to also help other young ladies on accomplishing theirs as well.
My plan is to launch my first full-service salon Studio Tailor Dallas in 2020 where I will also retail my hair extension line Studio Tailor Hair Collection. Location is currently finalizing. Amongst everything I just want to say anything is possible. As long as you put God first the possibilities and endless. I am a true witness. The only person stopping you is you! Last but not least always remember It does not matter when you start or how old you are the most important thing is to just start and have faith and keep god first the rest is history.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Along the way, I encountered distractions and setbacks not only from other people but from myself as well. I was married and I am currently divorced since 2015. That alone was a challenge within itself.
Trying to juggle a marriage and put everything you have left in building and maintaining your business and your brand when two people are on the same page can definitely cause many challenges. It also delayed my graduation from cosmetology school so many times but overall I thank god for getting me through it. I truly believe that everything that you go through is preparing you for what you asked for.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Studio Tailor Dallas – what should we know?
Studio Tailor is my brand. Studio Tailor Dallas is the name of my salon which I am personally known for specializing in one-hour sew-in extensions. I am most proud of my beliefs behind my company. I not only wanted this to but just another salon but I also wanted to focus on managing and taking into consideration the costumers time.
What sets me aside from most is the way I have always considered my customer’s time. By doing so I also plan on training my employees and instilling in them the same thing. Also, help each stylist to see that we are more just hairstylist, we are therapists, we are also at times life coach, etc… I don’t want to look at the customer as another dollar but as a family and that is what I take pride in the most building family.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
To remain humble and to always provide a professional and positive atmosphere for your clients. Amongst that maintaining an awesome personality goes a long way as well.
