Today we’d like to introduce you to Antonio Medina.
Antonio, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Ever since I could remember, I had always been interested in psychology and human behavior. It wasn’t until I got older that I realized that there was a career path for this and so it became very easy for me to decide what I wanted to do with my life.
Today, I have a thriving practice where I do things differently than your traditional therapist. I incorporate psychotherapy with holistic interventions which set me apart from everyone. As a child, I had been put in a Catholic school so I was introduced to the wonders of the human experience and the magic of the heavens.
It was because of this foundation that it made it very easy and almost natural for me to incorporate alternative and spiritual practices into counseling.
I trust that everyone who contacts me has contacted me because something about my site reached out to them, that in some way, I was able to convey that I am someone different. My typical client has been to therapy, has tried traditional therapy and even religion but still, hasn’t found the answer.
I always say, “Maybe it’s time do something different.”
Has it been a smooth road?
Looking back, I can’t say there were many struggles. I guess I have been lucky. I trust in God and in my Angels. Yes, my Angels. The biggest struggle looking back was when my family and I decided to move from California to McKinney, Texas in the summer of 2015. I was literally leaving a successful practice, my family, friends and a network of resources.
My biggest fear at the time was, “What if Texas doesn’t accept my style of therapy?” I opened up my practice in October of 2015 out of my home, something that I had always wanted to do. 3 months later, I had become busy enough that I was able to move my practice into my office and the rest is history.
God showed me that “my approach” was needed. There are some who are looking for something different and I am that something different and it’s been GREAT!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Some of the biggest differences that set me apart from others is that I’m real. And what exactly does this mean? It means that I haven’t forgotten who I am and that I am just like you. I’m a human being before I’m a therapist. How I act in life is how I am with you in therapy. I guess I’m authentic, almost to a fault but that’s okay. The right people will appreciate that.
A second difference is that I don’t take clients that I can’t help. If I don’t have expertise or interest in the presenting issue, I won’t pretend to “know” or be interested in seeing you because I’d be lying to you. The world is abundant, there are enough clients for everyone.
A third major difference between other therapists and myself is that I implement holistic and alternative interventions. A person doesn’t have to be religious or have to believe in God in order to benefit from these therapies, they just need to believe in themselves. My role in life is to help others see the potential I see in them, plain and simple.
A 4th major difference is that I actually treat the root problem. When people come for help, they come in complaining about the symptoms, not the root. The simplest way to put it is like this: Say you went to the doctor and complained about migraines, most doctors would prescribe a medication to treat the pain. I’m that doctor who asks, “What is causing this pain?” (although I’m not a doctor).
So what are my specialties? I really enjoy working with people who have mood problems, issues of self-worth, self-esteem, grief, relational problems, all forms of trauma and some addictions.
For those who are buzz-word sensitive, I utilize Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Hypnosis, HART, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative and when working with families and couples, I implement a lot of Symbolic-Experiential Therapy.
What I am most proud of is that I am who I am, I think of my clients even outside of my session because they are more than just a client, I hold their secrets.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, the world is abundant, there are enough people for everyone. I have only been here for just under 2 years and the population is growing.
