Today we’d like to introduce you to Chef Nellie Nell.
Chef Nellie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always had a passion for cooking. People have different stress relievers and cooking is mine. I love cooking and making people happy with my food. Seeing their facial expressions from the first bite to the last of one of my main entrees to my homemade tasty desserts. Taking recipes and putting my twist on them makes me happy. I love being able to be creative thru food. With different spices, sauces and more. Of course this would never have come to past without the strong push from family, friends and co-workers who’ve tasted my food to get it out for the world to one day enjoy. So, I finally decided to take a leap of faith and start my own business in 2014.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Lord knows it hasn’t been an easy road. Trying to turn my dream into reality while being a single mom of 1, going back to college full time and working in corporate America can be challenging when it comes to balancing time in a 24 hr day. But with a great support system and spiritual/motivational quotes to constant remind myself of any and everything is possible.
One of the many scriptures I relay on comes from Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, or the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
And one of my go to motivational reminders says
“Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty. I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life” Theodore Roosevelt
Please tell us about your business.
EST 2014: I started only doing homemade baked goods. From my white chocolate cinnamon rolls to fresh peach cobbler to moist lemon pound cake. More and more customers began asking if I offered any other dishes. So, I started to incorporate little by little. Business picked up the rest is history. I specialize in southern comfort food. I’m most proud of the fact that I turned my dream into a reality. More and more people are getting to experience Chef Nellie Nell and it is giving me more and more motivation to push to the next level and work on opening a restaurant. Being able to show my daughter to never give up on your dreams is the best feeling after a long days work. What sets me apart from others is the fact that you can taste the LOVE in every bite of my food. Every bite is like the first bite, full of flavor from beginning to end.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
