Hi April, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Makeup and Skincare has always been my passion. I remember, as a little girl, watching my mom put her makeup on in the mirror and saying to myself, “I can’t wait until I’m big enough to put makeup on just like Mommy!” I started wearing makeup in middle school and have been perfecting my craft ever since. When I graduated from high school and started college, I met with a dermatologist for the first time, and this was when I learned more about the importance of investing in a good skincare system. A good skincare system not only protects your skin but also keeps your skin looking good and feeling great! When I first started my skincare regimen, I immediately noticed a big difference when doing my makeup in the morning! My skin tone became more even and smooth all over. I had a pretty glow and didn’t have to use as much makeup.
October of 2023, I became a Beauty and Skincare Consultant with Mary Kay Cosmetics. I have always talked about starting a career in the Beauty industry but just never pursued it until now. My mission is to enrich women’s lives through empowerment and by making them feel beautiful inside and out. I am super excited about what the future holds, and I’m blessed to be a part of an amazing group of women right here in the Dallas-Fort Worth area! Everyone is very supportive and has been there for me every step of the way.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it has definitely not always been a smooth road. I have always wanted to pursue a career within the beauty industry, but I would let fear, doubt, overthinking, being too self-critical, and low self-esteem hold me back. Overtime, as I would conduct different businesses, I would slowly improve in each one of these areas. For instance, I would volunteer to present the products and/or business opportunity in front of different groups of people. This really helped me to overcome my personal fears and doubts when it came to running my business. I also joined a local Toastmasters club where they helped me to improve my public speaking and leadership skills, which was very helpful as well. Lastly, I used to think that I didn’t do makeovers fast enough to be able to pursue a professional career as a MUA. But that changed as I continued to work on perfecting my craft, which eventually made me faster. We have to always remember anything worth having will never come easy. It takes consistency, hard work, and determination to overcome any challenges you may face.
We’ve been impressed with Mary Kay Cosmetics, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Our makeup and skincare products are not only affordable but are also made of high-quality ingredients. I have consistently achieved the Quarterly Star Consultant status since I’ve started. I really enjoy this program because the company rewards us with unique gifts each time we achieve this status.
What sets me apart from others is the fact that I have a strong online presence and I have my MUA certification as well. I also enjoy creating skincare and makeup tutorial videos for people to learn from. I offer personalized services that fit you, including 1 on 1 consultations, complimentary facials (virtual or in-person), a party with friends, a virtual party, makeup tips, skincare advice, as well as free samples. Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
No, luck did not have anything to do with my success in life or business. What I will say is that I am blessed and highly favored. I am very fortunate to have a family who supports and prays for me constantly. I put God first in everything that I do and treat others the way that I wish to be treated. I’m the type to say a prayer, then go get what I just prayed for. I am very ambitious and determined to be successful in life and business. I love collaborating and connecting with other women who are doing big things in the community. I also follow other successful women who are doing what I want to do but on a larger scale. Remember, success leaves clues. You just have to be paying attention to be able to catch it. I surround myself with positive things and stay far away from drama and negativity. It’s important to set boundaries and protect your peace at all times.
