Meet Araceli Perez, Ph.D

Today we’d like to introduce you to Araceli Perez, Ph.D.

Hi Dr. Araceli, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I would love to share my story! I was born and raised in Denton, TX. I have always been very interested in the beauty industry, and going to cosmetology school was my goal towards the end of my high school career. However, there were a couple of ladies in my life that guided me towards a traditional college route. Therefore, cosmetology school was no longer in my career path at the time (2004). I pursued my Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and earned it! Not too long after undergraduate school, I decided to become an educator, and I started teaching high school! That turned the page into chapter two of my career. Here comes 2012, and I said yes to grad school. I earned my Master of Education in Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum, as well as my principal certification in the State of Texas; BUT that was not it for me! I went back and just recently earned my Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction. My career choices were always revolving around education and chapter two of my life was all about making a difference in my student’s educational choices. I was ready for chapter THREE!!! While teaching, I became certified in Powder Brow, and now I have a part-time business in Denton County doing Powder Brows (The Brow Lounge)! I LOVE IT! I love that I can teach my students and then go to my own place, my own business, my own schedule, and my own clients! I have fallen in love with each part of the PMU industry, and I hope to continue in this path. Who knows, this may just become the final chapter of my career, and I can make it a full-time career! In the meantime, I put all my heart and energy into each one of my clients. I am thankful for the trust I am given and the smile I receive after each session.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
So far, I have had a smooth sailing ship. I was proactive and I did my research. I became aware of each part of the business owner path, and I asked a lot of questions. The only struggle I would say is the marketing piece of the industry; however, patience is key, and hard work, and practice, lead to improvement and trust from those watching you from the outside. I have faith that I will continue to succeed in the industry just as I have until now.

Thanks for sharing that. So, what you’re most proud of?
I am most proud of my hard work and dedication towards each decision I make in my life. I am not only a hardworking individual, but I am a wife and mom! I have a personal life and a professional life, and I have learned to balance the two. I have a great support system, and my number one priority is to be a role model to my son. I walk a path that he looks up to, and I hope to impact his life choices in a positive manner. I strive to make him proud as he makes his own professional and personal decisions in life.

What does success mean to you?
Success to me is defined as happiness. Walking into each setting of life and being excited to serve the respective audience. Happiness is that I don’t feel pressured to do things, but rather I make the decisions to step into each part of my life as an educator and a business owner without feeling as though they are just a job. That is how I define my success.
