Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariella Beamon.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ariella. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In early 2017, I decided to make a career change and pursue my passion; makeup artistry. During the time I was in esthetics school, I soon realized there was a strong need for black estheticians who specialize in natural skin and body care services. Although makeup was my first love, I kept being pushed into skincare. My son had a severe eczema outbreak and his doctor wanted to put him on steroids. When I read the side effects of the drugs, I quickly decided there had to be a natural way to heal his skin. I begin to do natural skincare and light therapy services on him. In a short time, his skin transformed for the better!

A few months after receiving my Esthetician license, I took a leap of faith and rented a suite. I started immediately seeing primarily women of color and treating their skincare concerns. Soon I also started offering body care services such as vajacials and fanny facials. Using professional natural skincare, and constantly educating myself on treating skincare conditions such as hyperpigmentation, acne, acne scarring, texture concerns, etc. has kept me busy! Outgrowing my 96 square foot suite. After nine months I opened my studio which is over 400 square feet in less than a year.

Has it been a smooth road?
This journey has been far from smooth! I’ve had major health issues occur during this first year in business. I was diagnosed with a rare form of kidney disease the SAME month I moved into my studio. I was devastated at the diagnosis and overjoyed that I now owned an aesthetics specialty salon. Taking about 14 medications including a chemo drug every day, while seeing 8-10 clients a day has not been easy. But with the help of my husband and my family, I am making it look easy!

My business name is Looks Skin Studio (DBA Looks By Arie). I am an Esthetician that specializes in natural corrective skin and body care, natural Brazilian waxing, and brow artistry. I am most known for my videos on Instagram of services I perform (everything from brows, Brazilian waxing, vajacial services, facial massage, dermaplaning, etc.). I am most proud of my clientele. Being a Chicago native, when I moved to the DFW I had to build my clientele from nothing. I knew no one here, meanwhile, in a years time, I’m booked eight weeks out. What sets me apart is I’m unauthentically me! I am me, And that alone sets me apart.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
For someone who is not a Dallas native, this city has been amazing for my business. I recommend the DFW Area to anyone wanting to start a business in any field. You do have to make connections and be extremely active on social media to get your name out there but it’s possible!
