Meet Aromal Rajagopal of Carmatec

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aromal Rajagopal.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Business has been a passion and the way of life for several generations in my family. Even now, after about a 100 years, it continues to remain a full-time occupation.

Growing up in an industrial family with a grandfather and father in business, I naturally caught the bug at an early age. It has always been my dream to contribute to society in a way that it touches several lives. And this was the dream that influenced my choice of education and early career.

Carmatec isn’t my first business venture. I learned the ropes of the industry from my early experiences in consumer and construction material retail. And with sufficient experience to guide me, Carmatec was founded in 2003.

Carmatec was a well-thought-out move as I understood way back in the early 2000s that IT was going to be the driving force of the 21st century. We began by offering help desk and server management services to hosting companies and data centres in the United States and other mature world economies of Europe & Australia. With digitalization and user-centric businesses taking the centre stage, app development, cloud technologies, and inbound marketing services are being continuously added along with analytics and AI to Carmatec’s portfolio.

Since our inception, we have expanded our service range and currently get business from over 20 countries. From a group of 3 employees with a dream in 2003 to over 120 employees across three continents and 5 offices in the US, Middle East, and India, we certainly have come a long way. And there is a lot more we look forward to!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The journey has not been smooth, of course.

At the beginning, penetrating new markets, getting fundings for expansions and staying on top of the ever-changing technology cycle was a constant struggle. But we have always been a fast-paced company with growth and learning at the core of our culture. We are constantly trying new things, coming up with innovative ideas and adopting the cutting-edge tech in our solutions.

Finding new talents in sync with our culture while continuously ramping up production and expanding base has been a challenge. Thankfully internal referrals and the employer reputations built through the years helped us navigate these hurdles.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Carmatec is a digital transformation enterprise with a global footing and many years of experience across various industries. The thing that sets us apart from others is our passion for technology and commitment to providing value-services to our customers. Anyone can offer IT and digital solutions. But it takes a technology-advanced enterprise to deliver solutions that keep up with the trends and standards.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in the beautiful Kottayam town of Kerala with my parents, grandparents and 2 younger siblings. Education has always been deemed the most important aspect of shaping the future by my family. (My father is a civil engineer and mother is a general practitioner. I have two younger sisters–a computer engineer and a journalist.) With this as my ideal, I pursued my career with fervor and enthusiasm.

I took up math and science in college and was a fairly good student with good grades in all subjects. I was very interested in computers and algorithms and had a knack for building microprocessors and amplifier systems. I was competitive on the playground too and regularly played badminton, billiards carrom.

After I finished my Diploma in Applied Electronics at the age 21, I moved to Pondicherry where I pursued B.Tech in ECE at Pondicherry University. In 2011, I got into IBM Advanced Education in IIM Bangalore. And in 2016, I graduated from the Cornell University with a degree in Advanced Marketing Strategy.
