Today we’d like to introduce you to Asha Creary.
Asha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started this journey into cake decorating by always being a person who brought desserts to all family and friend gatherings. From there, I began baking and decorating within the last two years. I have a natural ability to teach and have taught in education for four years and have been a school counselor for two years. I began offering cupcake courses within local schools and transitioned into one on one and large group cake decorating classes. My passion came from a battle with insomnia. I spent many nights up staring at the ceiling in frustration and I finally decided to pour my energy into learning how to make homemade fondant, cakes, and icing. I currently sell my dry cake mixes, icing, cakes, and other pastries.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This has not been a smooth road at all. I have made so many reinvestments and have spent many 24 hour shifts on baking, marketing, traveling, etc. I am still struggling with wanting to transition into full entrepreneurship but still needing my salary to continue to invest in my vision. I have also used all of my district sick days taking time off to create dessert catering tables or traveling between cities like Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. I have also had a few out of state orders and demonstrating events in the last year. I am here to embrace it all and one day I will make money in my sleep!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the C. Rose Cakes & More story. Tell us more about the business.
C. Rose Cakes & More is a dessert and cake decorating business. I specialize in custom cakes including children, adult and dog cakes. What sets C. Rose Cakes & More apart from others is not only do I have my own recipe for my cakes, icing, and desserts. I also sell my dry cake mixes and icing. I enjoy providing direct instruction for youth. I love to inspire kids that already know what they want to do to avoid falling victim to this idea that everyone has to go to college or that education is the only way out of the “hood.” I am most proud of my courses and how they motivate not only young girls but boys to direct their emotions and fears into something that not only looks good but tastes good.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe in being consistent and pushing through on your faith of a mustard seed. All businesses have good and bad seasons.
