Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashleigh Coelho.
Ashleigh, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Ever since I was a child, I have always really enjoyed looking back at pictures of my family and being able to remember those special moments in time. As a teenager and in college, I had picture bulletin board collages put up in my room or scrapbooks close by to remind me about what’s most important in life – my family and friends. I always needed to have a camera handy, and I knew one day I’d grow up and get a fancy camera.
Fast forward to me having kids, and my obsession of documenting every single event went into overdrive. Once I had my first son, I wanted to capture every little detail of his life, and it grew from there. I bought a fancy camera but didn’t know how to use it at all other than turning it on and putting it in auto mode.
So, I took some college DSLR camera classes and I got hooked! I kept wanting to learn more and more about this amazing world of photography and I wanted to share my skills and passion for photography with other families.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning a business is definitely a learning process. My biggest bump in the road is balancing the precious time between my family and business.
I am very fortunate to have found a job that I really do love, so the time away from family that I put towards my photography business makes me a better mom!

Ashleigh Coelho Photography specializes in posed studio newborn photography. I pride myself in keeping it simple – I keep the main focus more on the baby and their cute little details. I customize every newborn session to each family’s requests – I ask each family a series of questions so that I can make their session unique to them.
Families are at-ease when they come to my studio. I am well prepared and calm with every newborn session. Babies can sense any stress in the room, so I allow mom and dad to relax and let me take over for a few hours. Not every baby will be easy, but I will always have backup plans (I’m a huge planner), and in the end, I always capture adorable photos.
I also have a niche for shooting families with children of all ages. I am a former elementary teacher, so I enjoy finding ways to connect with children and parents. The best compliment a family can give me is when they ask me to photograph them again and again!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being honest and trustworthy are very important characteristics when working with so many little ones. I take pride in making sure my families have all the information needed before a photography session occurs and they feel they can trust me to produce images that will last a lifetime.
