Meet Ashley Farr of Ashley Rhian Photography in Denton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Farr.

Ashley, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was randomly asked by an advisor for my high school newspaper to take pictures for the paper and that is where my love for photography started. I was 16 years old. I graduated from the University of Montana with a degree in journalism, with an emphasis in photojournalism. I interned for a couple of newspapers and did a lot of freelance work for the years following my graduation. A few years ago, I pursued a project I called Missoula Rabble in my hometown of Missoula, Montana. I interviewed and photographed strangers on the street. I started out by posting my subjects on Facebook. The project took off and I soon had many followers. I decided to publish a book of my work. I published and released my book in September 2014. After publishing my book, I moved to Texas to be with my now husband and pursue owning and running my own business. I have worked full-time as a wedding photographer for three years now and I love every little thing about owning my own business and documenting people’s love stories.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has definitely taken a lot of hard work and sacrifice to get where I am today. I think we don’t realize how much work we have to put into things to really make them happen. Things don’t just happen in an instance. Time, dedication, and patience are key to owning your own photography business. It is important to look back at where I started to see how far I’ve come because the process is slow and steady. It just takes a while to build a network of fellow photographers and clientele especially in a place the size of Texas. It is also important to trust your gut and your art. The right people will follow.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Ashley Rhian Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a lifestyle photographer who specializes in wedding, elopement, and engagement photography. My goal is to tell the story of two people. I like to capture the raw and candid moments between two people and their family. I am most proud of receiving the trust of my clients to capture one of the most important times of their lives. It feels good whenever someone tells me how much the love my work and style and they want me to document their love. I have a unique, romantic, and moody style of editing and shooting. I try to steer away from posey posey photos. I like capturing the real moments between people. I have a very “fly on the wall” approach when it comes to photographing weddings. I think my photojournalistic style sets me apart from a lot of photographers in the same business as me.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I hope to continue to do what I’m doing now. I love shooting elopements and really intimate ceremonies so I hope to be doing a little more of that along with a little more traveling too. I want to continue to grow and attract clients who are attracted to my style and visions.
