Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Godby.
Ashley, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am originally from Ft. Worth, TX. I have been dancing since the age of five. I graduated from Booker Washington High School of the Performing and Visual Arts in downtown Dallas. I moved to Los Angeles right after high school and danced professionally for 12 plus years. I worked in TV, film, and commercials. I started transitioning into teaching group fitness in 2012.
I am beyond blessed to have found a career that I love as much as dancing. (if not a little more) I got hired at SoulCycle in May of 2016 and after training the company relocated me to Dallas to open the Uptown location in December of 2016. I am so grateful to be back home in Texas, and the Dallas community is amazing. I have the opportunity to teach spin, pilates and boot camp classes. I get to meet so many different people throughout my work week. I am one lucky lady!
Has it been a smooth road?
The professional dance world has so many highs and lows. I was so passionate about dance my whole life that I was up for any challenge. I think I secretly enjoyed the struggle when I first moved to LA. Growing up in dance made me who I am today. I am a strong human being because of my dance background. I continue that strength and athleticism in my fitness career. I am so passionate about what I do and am thankful for every experience along the way.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the SoulCycle, Session Pilates and Barry’s Bootcamp story. Tell us more about the business.
I teach at three of the top group fitness studios in Dallas. SoulCycle, Session Pilates and Barry’s Bootcamp. I love what all three studios stand for. I consider these studios my family. I love my job. I never feel like I am working because of the support from the Dallas fitness community is like no other.
Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years? Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc?
I honestly stand behind all three of these studio brands, and there is such a strong foundation that I am confident all three studios will be strong in ten years.
