Meet Ashley Malfitano of The Uber Shop & The Mompreneur Boutique in Plano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Malfitano.

Business Story:
The Uber Shop was started by Diana Kinsey as a hobby selling used items on eBay in the mid-’90s, that hobby then grew into a multi-dynamic business over the next 20 years. Selling on eBay, Amazon and Walmart Marketplaces at a third party seller. Then, in the spring of 2006, Diana’s daughter, Ashley Malfitano expanded The Uber Shop from e-commerce to brick n mortar opening a physical storefront in Plano, TX. Most recently in the Spring of 2019, this “Mompreneur” duo launched The Mompreneur Boutique, a boutique clothing website that speaks to the busy life a “Mompreneur.” Offering clothing for all different shapes of mom bodes while speaking to the busy moms who are pursuing higher entrepreneur callings.

Coming later this summer Ashley will be launching a new podcast, The Mompreneur Tribe. A vulnerable, authentic conversation with women who are navigating the journey of entrepreneurship and motherhood.

Ashley’s Personal Story:
Growing up as the daughter of a business owner, I saw how hard work, dedication, and desire demonstrated on a daily basis. If you had a desire put on your heart and worked hard enough you could accomplish it. I had a desire for merchandising from high school and then went on to pursue it in college. Post college, I worked for several large corporations in the retail industry while also helping my mom expand from e-commerce to opening a retail storefront. But once I had my first daughter, I realized the need to come “home.” Corporate America was great and had provided many learning opportunities but is a hard place to be while growing a family.

Wanting a more flexible schedule, I came home to help my mom with The Uber Shop Corporation. Career-wise, it has been the best decision ever personally. It allows flexibility in my schedule, but even more so it has allowed my mom the assistance in the business that she needed to continue growing it. This most recently after many talks we launch www.themompreneurboutique.com, a website that speaks a voice directly to mom entrepreneurs and the fashions for their busy lives. Being a second generation “mompreneur” this touches my heart dearly.

Has it been a smooth road?
The big lesson we have learned in owning a business is to capture and enjoy the big moments. Bottle it up, because you will need to use that energy to help push through the inevitable hard times. We also look for ways to give back to our direct community through our business, we believe our business can be used for the mission field we are put here to serve.

All businesses will have hard times, and personally, we have learned those times will define you as a business. We are human and will make errors, but it is how we have corrected those errors to make things right for our customers that truly show the customer they are more than just another sale to us, but a friend that we value to come in our store.

Over the 20 years, we have business technology has changed, and at times we have not always kept up with it. We have worked harder physically than maybe we had to, but those experiences have taught us and inevitably grown us into stronger business leaders.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Uber Shop & The Mompreneur Boutique story. Tell us more about it.
Mompreneur Boutique is a fashion website that provides for mom entrepreneurs. Providing fashion solutions for busy moms who are pursuing big dreams.

Our company values our customers and the relationships we have with them. Even though we may have never met them in person we still want to have a relationship with them. From the content, we post, to the interactions we have with them during the order process.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Technology is dictating changes in how customers shop and lots of businesses are using this as an opportunity to cheat out on customer service. We want to continue to stay relevant to our customer on the internet as we progress and changes in the different stages of life.
