Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Miller.
Ashley, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Sports have always been a part of my DNA, and basketball helped me with self-esteem and weight loss as a kid.
Watching the WNBA those first couple of seasons was like watching my future job night after night. I just knew I would be involved in some type of way. When I moved to Indianapolis as a teen, I got an opportunity to be a ball kid for the Indiana Fever.
Over the years that role evolved as I grew up with the team. When I graduated from Purdue, I started working as administrative assistant to Indiana Fever GM Kelly Krauskopf. After 3 WNBA finals runs and one trip to the White House, my husband and I wanted to move our family somewhere warmer, so we picked Dallas. And just as luck would have it, the Tulsa Shock announced a move shortly after. I joined the Dallas Wings Executive Team and I currently serve as the VP of Basketball Operations. Eighteen seasons later and I’m living my dream.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing comes easy, that’s life. But I have been fortunate to work for and around a lot of great people — coaches, GMs, team presidents and players — who have helped me become the woman and professional that I am today. These are people who have pushed and challenged me, and I’m for that I’m only thankful.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Dallas Wings – what should we know?
As the Vice President of Basketball Operations my role includes scouting, team travel schedules and budgeting. I also assist with player transition to the league- housing, transportation. Watching the WNBA grow for many years it’s truly an honor to still be in so many years later. Being part of the executive team for the Dallas Wings is special. We are new. We are still building our fan base. And with amazing talent like Skylar, Glory, Karima and Allisha Gray we have a lot to look forward to as an organization.
