Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Mitchell.
Ash Roc candle was started off the back of a failed business and curiosity. My original business was making hat wigs but it wasn’t something I was passionate about. I’ve always liked candles and just wanted to see what it would be like to make my own. That first candle was the start of making a business out of something i love. I always tell people “I didn’t choose the candle life it chose me”.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There have been many different struggles I’ve experienced in my business. Start-up funding, visibility as a small business and self-doubt it’s can be scary at times taking big risks but in every decision is a lesson and it better prepares you for the next one.
Please tell us about your business.
I am self-taught, I specialize in handmade candles and beauty products. Our company is a local woman owned business; our candles are made by hand from start to finish with lots of love. We only use honest to good ingredients and stand out from the crowd with our blue jars. It was important to me to not only have a business i loved waking up to but that also gives back to a cause near and dear to my heart. We donate to Mental Health Awareness & Suicide Non-Profit Organizations every first week of October.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I’d have to say a few of my biggest inspirations came from social media I see women who share a piece of their world who look like me and give me hope to not only want more but create something I love and am passionate about and build a career around it. My biggest support is my spouse Micheal he keeps me level headed and sane. This entrepreneur journey can be lonely at times I’m happy to have someone who pushes me to do better and helps me in every way he possibly can.
