Meet Ashley Peters of Arike Candles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Peters

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story is on-going, but definitely would love to share my journey thus far! I am born and raised in Texas, the great city of Dallas to be exact and have lived in many different areas of the city so I am Dallas to the bone. I am a mom and that in itself means I hold many titles – doctor, therapist, Uber driver, teacher…..just to name a few. As an adult, my career has been mostly positioned in financial services and I have been in various roles for major banks and tech companies for nearly 20 years, specifically focused in the areas of syndicated and private debt. However, when COVID hit in 2020 and I was working from home, I decided it was a great time to step my toe in other areas of interest. This is where real estate enters! I have always been interested in learning the real estate industry and decided to take classes to get my license. I passed the exam and signed on with my current brokerage, Keller Williams – DFW Preferred. Ever since then, I have been learning the real estate market in Dallas and networking. I really am passionate about helping people in the home-buying process whether they are a first-time homebuyers, seasoned buyers, or looking for a new investment property! And not just homes, I help buyers looking for land lots as well. Obtaining my license and growing my business has been a big part of ensuring my cup is filled as a woman and mom. Another venture I have leaped into is that of creating and selling luxury candles and perfume oils. Anyone close to me can tell you I am all about scents — way too much money has been spent on candles and perfume over the years! I decided once again, why not try something else I have a passion for?? Viola! Arike Candles is born. Arike, the name itself is very special because it the chosen Yoruba name for my daughter and as I grow, not just this business and real estate, my daughter is very much involved. My daughter, Ari, and God are what ground me and help guide my steps. I talk to her about both businesses and the work necessary to be achieve your goals. My daughter is very active as well so although I don’t succeed at juggling it all the time, balance is key in my life. My goal is to build a successful real estate business, a successful brand, and to show my daughter to go for her passions no matter what. So today, I am proud of my journey and the work I am doing to help others through real estate, and my intentionality when it comes to filling my own cup so that I am available to fill my daughter’s cup. I really look forward to growth in both endeavors and future opportunities to come!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a smooth road! As a single mom, the biggest struggles are time and finances. That is why balance is a recurring theme in my life. Some of the struggles I have endured and continue to endure are figuring out how to align my personal goals and priorities with my career goals and priorities, managing my diff roles – Mommy, Assistant Vice President in Bank Debt at a large financial company, Realtor in the DFW Metroplex, and an online retail business owner, and having FULL financial responsibility for it all. As I said before, I have an active daughter – she attends private school, does competitive cheer, flag football, and volleyball. My load plus her load is quite a bit and takes top-tier time-management skills, budgeting, and help from my village (My Family). With real estate, I am still in the process of building my clientele. It is a people-business so you have to continue to put yourself out there and always deliver top-notch customer service. With ARIKE Candles, I have participated in local events to showcase my products, I continue to learn how to take quality product pics, website design, pricing, marketing, and overall business operations. I am one person (with the goal of having a team one day), but time and finances are consistent hurdles.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
ARIKE Candles is a brand focused on delivering a sensory experience through our luxury candles and perfume oils that elevate you and your space into a haven of opulence and serenity. We use high-quality ingredients and really carefully curate our scents to evoke an emotion or mood. Aromatherapy and its therapeutic benefits have really helped me with stress and anxiety. With ARIKE Candles, I wanted to give that to others but also develop a product that represents luxe, exudes sophistication, and compliments any home interior style. The name ARIKE is a Yoruba name from the Yoruba lineage in Nigeria and it means “the cherished one” and I want everyone to feel cherished and to pamper themselves; indulge into self-care rituals of lighting our candles or wearing our perfume oils that help ignite a soothing ambiance in your space.

We currently offer four year-round candle scents – Black Teakwood, Ylang Yang + Eucalyptus, Lemongrass + Coconut, and Midnight Musk. Soon we will be offering seasonal scents as well! Please look out for updates on our IG and website! We offer two perfume oils (more coming soon!) – Amber + Dusk Rose, and Jasmine + Cedarwood.

On the real estate side, I am really here to be my client’s right hand and share my knowledge to help them make the best investment for both their family and financial situation. As a realtor, who is family-driven and has professional experience in financial services, I think I offer a unique perspective to help guide my clients.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Outside of my really close friends, I don’t think most people know how silly and random I am! I have a serious face….and I do love structure, but I love to laugh. Everyone knows how goofy my daughter is…….she 100% gets that from me!

When it comes to business, I love being efficient, reliable, and structured. However, I am also a very flexible, down-to-earth, silly person!
