Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Woodard.
Ashley, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my natural product line because I could not find anything on the market to fit my “skin” type. A lot of products would burn my skin because they were too strong or had an ingredient in them that was not good for black skin. So, it made me do a lot of reading and research on different ingredients and how to mix them. I have always been into doing things the “natural” way, no chemicals. It first started it with having natural hair and wearing natural deodorant. Fun fact; I am a hair stylist and my first plan was for Rosie’s beauty zone to be a black-owned beauty supply but today it is the name of my natural product company. Rosie is my grandma name and my company is in honor of her.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. I graduated from Tarleton state university May of 2016 and I was not sure what I wanted to do with my life. June of 2016, I became a full-time entrepreneur. When you’re your own Boss, your job is never done. Currently, I run two businesses and go to Esthetician school part-time. I am a stylist at Treasure chest beauty studio, I create and manage the products for Rosie’s beauty zone while attending night school to get my esthetics license. I’m working on creating a juice business and hopefully, in a year, I will be able to open a black-owned juice bar. Wearing different hats and it only being one of me is my biggest obstacle. Most days, I wake up and go work at the salon for 8+ plus hours. Then I go to class from 5:30-10pm and finally I go home and fulfill any online orders I have for a day. It is really a challenge most times to keep up clients, friends, and family.
Please tell us about Rosie’s Beauty Zone.
Rosie’s beauty zone is a company that provides natural and organic skin, hair and body products. What set my company apart from others is that we are for the people. We care about the customer’s opinion and try to tailor the product to their exact need. I am also a hair stylist at treasure chest beauty studio and I specialize in braids. I am currently enrolled in esthetician school part time and will receive my license August of 2019. My end goal is to have a spa, where I would sell my product line and help clients achieve their skin goals.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood would be going to Disney world for a cheer competition. I really enjoyed cheerleading when I was younger and it made it even better than we got to go to Disney world.
