Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Yamauchi.
Ashley, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I got started on my waxing journey by becoming a Licensed Esthetician in California in 2010. I immediately knew from my Esthetics course that I loved waxing and it came very naturally to me. The next part of my journey started when I worked for a Wax Center chain as a Wax Specialist. This is where I really perfected my craft and was able to become a speed Waxer. Being a speed Waxer means you can get your services done very quickly BUT very efficiently. I eventually became a Wax Trainer in a few locations and was able to train new employees how to wax correctly. After working for the Wax Center, I knew I wanted to branch out on my own because I knew I had the skills I needed and I wanted to be able to run my business how I thought it should be ran. I wanted to be able to decide how long services should be and be able to give my clients the time they needed to feel as comfortable as possible and get to know them. So naturally, I had to get started somewhere so.
I opened Melted Wax Studio in 2018. In my studio, I do speed waxing because I don’t think anyone wants to be getting waxed for 30+ minutes. I know I don’t! I’m able to offer so much more being on my own such as Ingrown Hair Treatments, High-Frequency treatments, amazing products, and full body waxing for both Men and Women. I dedicate more time to educate my clients on proper aftercare and waxing routines, I also love that I’m able to create that atmosphere where clients feel welcome, they feel more confident and they come to my studio to treat themselves. My main goal that is always in mind through every service is to offer the most comfortable wax experience possible and giving my clients the time they need to feel comfortable. All in all, it’s been a great journey and I can’t wait to welcome even more clients into my new studio in Lake Worth that is opening in July!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road. I think in life, doing anything that is hard, like opening your own business, is going to be a roller coaster of difficulties and achievements. Learning how to make an LLC, DBA, getting insurance, filing taxes, getting licenses, etc. has been the hardest part for me. I had to learn all of that on my own and going into opening my business. I did not realize exactly how much goes on behind the scenes. Fortunately, I have it all figured out now and it has been a lot easier. I think that there will always be things along the way that will be difficult but knowing how far I’ve come so far, I know I can get through anything.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Melted Wax Studio story. Tell us more about the business.
Melted Wax Studio is a one-woman ran business. I offer full body waxing from head to toe for both Women and Men. I specialize in Women’s Brazilians; the service itself is usually only ten minutes long. I would say I’m known for being super quick with my services while always having the smoothest results and also known for being super friendly and caring with my clients. As a company, I am most proud of being able to offer new services that other wax companies don’t offer such as my Ingrown Hair Treatments. What sets me apart from others is my ability to offer the most comfortable wax experience but within a speed wax time frame while still getting the smoothest results. I like to focus on achieving smooth skin; so that also means treating problem skin in the process so ultimately, every single client can have clear & smooth skin.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I wouldn’t say luck is something that has played a part in my life or business because it has been extremely hard work that has gotten me to where I am today. If I want to do something or offer a new service, whatever it may be, I educate myself. I research, I test things out, I put in the work that’s needed to get where I want to be. However, I would say I’m lucky to have the clients that I do have and am so grateful for them, especially my loyal clients. That is one thing… I wouldn’t be able to be where I am today without my clients trusting me, so with that, I am lucky.
