Meet Ashly Fields of Bike Friendly South Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashly Fields.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ashly. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started Bike Friendly South Dallas after I got tired of seeing cyclist in underprivileged communities bicycle unsafe; while riding in bike lane for an example like on MLK Blvd. I wanted to provide a cycling resource center for people to come and get educated on how to ride safe, maintain the up keep their bicycles, get city road infrastructure updates, city counsel bicycling notes and protective gear and other cycling related resources. I wanted to be a platform for those who cannot afford cars, but instead bicycle; as it is a legitimate means for transportation. I believe that when I started BFSD, I believed that kids could become more independent, parents could join this adventure and both would develop mobility freedom. Oh, and it is free to do if you decide to grab a bike and go. I hope that one day, BFSD will be the biggest cycling resource center in the world.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been pretty smooth because there is a very diverse group of cyclists in Dallas. From road to mountain, to cruising to commuting, it is so much to learn and so many great folks to ask. Cyclists are the coolest group of crazies ever. The struggles come with being unique. There is no other center like BFSD. We are unique because we are not just about riding bicycles. WeCycle is an all-around cycling savvy resource center.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Bike Friendly South Dallas story. Tell us more about the business.
We specialize in community bicycle rides, bicycling awareness, increasing ridership, promoting advocacy, creating bicycle art, mentorship and bicycle maintenance and other bicycle-related resources. We are unique because no one else is an all-around WeCycle Resource center.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see us being the biggest bicycle advocacy group with a unique artsy flavor!
