Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlynn Viere.
Ashlynn, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Where do I begin?! I became obsessed with taking photos when I was a young girl. I still remember flipping through old family albums and constantly taking photos with my Barbie Polaroid. Little did I know, not only would I create a beautiful journey, but also a career fueled by passion. I started my photography journey in 2016 when I worked with a company called LifeTouch. They are a photography company that works primarily with schools to take annual yearbook photos. LifeTouch taught me the basics of photography, something I will always be thankful to them for, but I quickly learned I enjoyed capturing real moments rather than staged ones. This is when I started to dabble in photography for myself. I spent months, days, and hours finding editing software and my own personal style that gave my clients bright, crisp, and unique images. My uncle gave me my first DSLR camera, a Canon Rebel T3i to be exact. I loved how I could manipulate images to reflect the visions in my head, and so I began my journey with Uniquely You Photography. I knew if I wanted to be a well-known photographer, I would have to get out of my comfort zone and meet people. Within four months, I joined multiple networking groups, Facebook groups, and created an online portfolio using Instagram. Just two months after that and I had created a website, a more robust portfolio, and gained a small group of returning clients. Most photographers will tell you to stay within a niche, but I refuse to limit myself. Since I created Uniquely You Photography in 2017, I have photographed Weddings, Newborns, Family Holidays, Birthdays, Company Advertisement & Events, Out of State Family Reunions, Halloween Balls, Styled Shoots, and Anniversaries. Reflecting on 2019 is extremely humbling. I have booked over 65 photo shoots & 5 weddings. My clients mean everything to me, and I would not be where I am today without them. As an entrepreneur, I strive to make my dreams a reality and encourage others to do the same. If I could give anyone advice, it would be to never give up and always strive to better yourself. Currently, I am working on a fashion & food blog for the Dallas area, and I recently became a freelance model. I am excited to see what the future holds, as the possibilities and opportunities are limitless. Remember, if opportunity isn’t knocking, build yourself a door.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I am my absolute worst critic! There is always something more I feel I should be doing, and without a team to bounce ideas off of, the journey of becoming a successful photographer can be lonely at times. The best advice I can give anyone who wants to start a business in photography is to network and go to group events, as well as make friends in the industry. The people you know and meet will help you succeed in the grand scheme of things. I would like to thank & acknowledge Kellie Kay with Kellie Kay Photos for being my mentor and a great friend. When I started my business, I had one thing in mind: others. Anyone can pick up a camera and take photos. When you find a photographer who is passionate about capturing the real you in moments that always seem to fade too soon, you end up with a story to tell your loved ones for years to come. My job as a photographer is to not only capture your moments, but to make those moments a unique interpretation of yourself, your family, & your company. I think outside of the box, I do the hard work so you don’t have to, and I cherish every moment of it.
