Ashok, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a child, I was a tea seller on the street in Mumbai, India, and at that time, I always had a dream to open a restaurant but never happened than the age of 22, I came to America and again I decided I will open an Indian restaurant in America and finally Dallas Plano fulfilled my Dream.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In the beginning, I thought it might be very hard due to competition with other restaurants. Dallas and Plano has so many restaurants but people loves me so it was k8nd of smooth due to my self in the retail industry from 1998.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Desi Ginger Restaurant and Bar – what should we know?
We are pure authentic North Indian restaurant with specialized in GUJARATI food Gujarat is one of Indian state where most of the people are vegetarian and every Sunday my wife cooks fresh GUJARATI FOOD we serve unlimited thali (steel plate) and we are very famous in the Indian community for it.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My wife Neeta Barot is the backbone for this concept because she is the one made our restaurant personal and famous because her slogan is we cook with love. She also has her food Chanel (Veggieflavoursbyneeta).
