Meet Audresha Pemberton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Audresha Pemberton.

Audresha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I would walk into church often, feeling broken yet hopeful, shortly after my sister was murdered. I turned to writing as a way to get my thoughts and feelings on paper, recognizing that the hurt that I donned each day was far too much for any one person to counsel me through. My genius idea of blogging came when I accepted the fact that I was dealing with something that no one in my circle had experienced. Instead of letting it defeat me, I decided to find victory in it and chose to publicly write and expose the truths of life that I live, and how my faith gets me through. While being completely vulnerable exposes the deepest cavities of who I am, my whole purpose is to provide hope to those who walk along the same path that I do by sharing with them the secret ingredient to life: joy.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It wasn’t always the smoothest road. The biggest obstacle was deciding what to do with the opinions of others. At one point, I was working for a very well known church in Dallas and had to consider how my words might be misconstrued or falsely assumed to be affiliated with the church. Another struggle has been the desire to be as open as possible with the real events taking place in my life while also having to respect the privacy of those involved. It’s tough and has definitely required me to be more creative in how I share my stories.

Please tell us about Audresha Lynn.
I write about real life. The things that people are afraid, to be honest about – I talk about it. I have made writing contributions to Thrive.com, thoughtcatalog.com and of course my own blog audreshalynn.com. I beam when I get messages on social media and emails regarding something I wrote. It is truly an honor and privilege to be able to be invited into so many lives as they share their stories back with me.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would choose to write unapologetically. While I had good reason to play it safe, I did a disservice to others as it has been my personal conviction to be as truthful as possible, always with every post that I write. In the beginning, I wasn’t writing as often as I should have, nor was I making the necessary connections with others in my niche. I would definitely do that over.
