Today we’d like to introduce you to AZÁN.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Where do I even begin! Lol, My family who I adore has always been a musical family. My great uncles were in a well-known band back in the 80’s and my grandmother was a well-known Opera singer in Shreveport, Louisiana. Growing up my parents would always play various genres of music around the house, from Artists like Jill Scott and Lauryn Hill to Shania Twain and Céline Dion. Back when I was 11, I gained the courage to perform for the first time at my school talent show & from that moment, I knew I wanted to do Music for the rest of my life.
At age 14, I started recording and writing my own songs in Bossier, Louisiana with my cousin, which opened many doors for me. After High School, I began acting and singing in Stage Plays with actors such as Tony Grant from Tyler Perry’s “Love Thy Neighbor” which really over the time taught me to get over my fear of performing in front of people. After doing plays, I started getting asked to come and do open mics in Deep Ellum in Downtown Dallas, where I met so many amazing Artists and Musicians who I still perform with to this day! A third Charm I have is the love for Dance, which also helped me get my foot in the door to perform for well-known artist.
I started as a background dancer and leveled up to open up for Artist such as Solo Lucci, Day 26 and recently perform with B2K at the 2019 Millennium Tour!! For the past year, I started making YouTube videos of me singing different covers, some getting up to 8.3K views! I am now apart of an amazing band and also getting ready to release my first single off of my E.P! Which will be released this Summer!! Time to put on for my city!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been far from smooth, learning the Music game alone with no representation or no management was very hard starting at the age that I did. You can’t always trust the first person that tells you “I can make you famous!!”. Over the years, I’ve grown not to be what anybody else wants me to be but be the Artist I chose to be.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a Singer-songwriter, Actress and a Dancer. I perform at different Community events, weddings, album release parties, and other special occasions. I would say I am most proud of my ambition and growth through my journey learning to be an Artist to now getting ready to release one of the best songs I ever wrote! What I would say sets me apart from others, outside of me being Creole, is the story and vibe behind my music.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
There are so many people that I could thank that helped me stay in the right direction and push me to be the best Artist I can be. The one person I admired was my college Jazz Ensemble Vocal Professor Andrea! She not only encouraged the talent I already had but pushed me to be an actual performer! My family and friends are great supporters as well!!
