Today we’d like to introduce you to B King.
B King, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started the art form of makeup artistry almost 20 years ago. I was a young boy who knew he was fascinated by the transformation of makeup. So, I went to school for cosmetology and began to perform in the theater and in drag. My passion for the art form continued to grow then I realized it was my mission or my goal. I got my start by doing hair and makeup out of my house for the people I knew then the word got out about what I was able to do and the customer stormed me with support. I began to work in the industry professionally and 15 years later, I decided makeup and hair just wasn’t enough for me because I knew it was something else I enjoyed and that was skincare. So, I am proud to say that I am launching a skincare line dropping this year. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with celebrities do you make up for fashion shows all over the world and travel to different companies doing what I love to do. I currently work for a large and makeup brand you send me the cross country who teaches me to train the teachers to meet you inspire him and evolve up-and-coming makeup artist so with my dream I dare to continue to uplift inspire and transform the world one brushstroke at a time.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, the road has not been eating it has it has definitely been a challenge but a challenge I’m happy that I was able to overcome being a young black boy growing up in the south with very traditional and spiritual parents make up and what I wanted to do was just not a big it wasn’t a big to-do so it has definitely not been a challenge I’m even in the industry you know I don’t find many people that look like me or people of higher standards that do what I do so I’m always having to really push and fight and grind for myself to be seen and to be heard.
B king cosmetics – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
So, my business is an all-natural holistic skincare line catered to all people. It is designed for beginners with the secrets of my personal skin care routines. I am most proud of my company because I never thought it would come true and here I am living my dreams one day at a time. The one thing that sets me apart from other companies and artist is that my being is to inspire uplift and create beauty and it’s not always about the dollar or popularity
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally define success by the impact I leave on others! My legacy will speak for my success because I am too busy creating it to stop and measure it. I am also successful because I have an amazing husband who stands behind me 100% to go after my goals and dreams. He is also an amazing artist so it pushed me harder to continue to rise with him! Love you, Elmo!!! Lol!
