Today we’d like to introduce you to Babs Banwo.
Hi Babs, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
While there are many artists emerging from the booming Dallas music industry, few possess the unique talent and versatility that Banwo brings. An uprising artist in the Afro-beats genre, his music is a special blend of sounds, styles, and influences — paired with an incredible passion for making music that’s set to make him one of the hottest artists to emerge in the months ahead.
A Nigerian native, Banwo moved from Lagos to the United States at seven years old. By then, he had already soaked up a significant portion of his native culture and learned to speak Yoruba — something that would go on to define his voice and artistic expression for years to come. After arriving in the U.S., he found a new way to express that voice: through music.
Inspired by artists like Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy, Banwo entered the world of music at a young age and learned to play the drums. He later began experimenting with singing and writing his own rap verses, drawing on Lil Wayne’s creative, fast-paced style. That experimentation — combined with the love and support of family and friends — opened the door to a life of musical expression. Today, Banwo is entirely focused on his music career. Enjoy!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not been smooth. Working with bad managements and being a part of bad deals have slowed me down.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My name is Babs Banwo, but I go by the stage name of Banwo. I am an afro-beats recording artist. I am originally from Lagos, Nigeria but I grew up in here in Dallas, Texas. I have currently released 2 albums “Caesar” and “Caesar 2.0”. My songs are being played in clubs and lounges here in Dallas. I perform live often and I am also working on going on my first ever regional tour.
What does success mean to you?
I believe success is having a goal that you wish to reach and then executing well enough to look back and successfully call it an achievement.
