Today we’d like to introduce you to Bea Harper.
Bea, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I got my start as an early teenager. I did have to beg my Father to drive me to a job interview that I had set up. I began sewing for myself, but found I needed more knowledge on how to make tailored jackets, tailored skirts.
My rate of pay was 50 cents an hour and was incredibly lucky to have gotten a job at Jack’s Tailors in Omaha, Nebraska. I was always around and working with people from all over the world and English was not a language that was spoken in the workroom. We worked together using our hands to demonstrate what the stitching was to look like.
Today, I continue to work with people from all over the world and still enjoy it!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
With having a business of any kind, once established, things and challenges are somewhat smoother.
Please tell us about The Fitting Room.
The Fitting Room in Dallas, Texas, is a full service sewing, alterations, custom clothing and bespoke clothing, along with patternmaking, we also do a lot of consulting with consumers that are wanting to patent an idea that involves fabrics.
We also do a lot of Re-weaving and mending of sweaters. One of our specialties for sure.
We offer sewing classes for young children to adults year round.
We also specialize in alterations that no one else can do in Dallas or in the United States.
Working on hand cutting lace whether for a Bridal gown or a Custom piece of clothing, one of my favorites and my team excels in.
