Meet Bee Salas of Queen Bee Studio in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bee Salas.

Bee, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey began many years ago in 2002, to be exact. For years I told myself I would enroll in cosmetology school but I always found an excuse. I found myself working 2-3 jobs just to make ends meet. Then I realized I didn’t want to be a part of that rat race. Living on my own, I worked and went to school full time. There seemed to not be enough hours in the day but I was determined to finish school. Finally, I graduated and decided to go on my own right away. That was not the best of ideas. I felt that after graduating from school, I did not know how to face certain scenarios. I wasn’t equipped with all the knowledge I needed to face these scenarios and that was discouraging. So I decided to take a small break from hair. I did not have enough clientele to make a steady income and I went back to bartending. I realized that I was getting my self into the same rat race again and that was not what I wanted. I had heard about an apprenticeship program that a respectable salon had in my area and I applied for it. By this time, I had a newborn baby girl and that was my fight. As a single mother, I knew I had to make my daughter the reason for our future success.

I took the apprenticeship program at Esoterica Salon for about 6th months and I was ready to be on the floor. Taking clients and making my dream come true. One day one of my mentors asked if I wanted to volunteer at a hair show. Not knowing what a hair show was at the time or even what to expect. I jumped to the chance and said yes. This was the begging of everything. I volunteered for three days, shampooing, cleaning behind the scenes and learning. I watched the transformation of models from the 1st day till the 3rd day. I saw platform stylist sharing what the knew and the passion that poured from them for the industry. I was taking it all in. I made it my mission to become an educator and at the end of the day 3rd day, I was asked by the lead educator if I wanted a career opportunity with Rusk. I went back to the salon, inspired. I took the position with Rusk while working in the salon and 6 Years after extensive trainings and traveling all over the world and learning so many different techniques, I along with 2 of my co-workers/mentors were asked if we wanted to lead a team of educators for another company called Babyliss Pro. We all jumped to the opportunity. Its been almost ten years working for Babyliss Pro and now we have a team that has cutting, coloring and styling formats that have made us all stronger behind the chair. While being an international platform artist, I still worked behind the chair.

In 2011, I had another beautiful little boy. This amazing gift of single motherhood pushed me to shift my mind into person development. I made it my goal to make money while I sleep! Leave a legacy for my little ones. I decided to go on my own and leave the salon. Queen Bee Studio opened its doors in 2015 and it has been one of the best decisions of my life. This set the tone for more! In 2016 Hairollers By J and B went live. Hairollers is a team of stylist, barbers, makeup artist and nail technicians that go on site and does banquets, weddings, commercials and any other special occasions necessary! My business partner and co-worker/ founder of the babyliss pro team and I decided on Hairollers not only to do hair on wheels but to also bring the DFW community together. We have done educational events as far as bringing stylist from all over the USA to come share their knowledge with our DFW barbers, stylist, etc…

But I always said I wanted to make money while I sleep. So on January 31st of 2019, BX haircare went live. My sister and I decided to have our own healthy hair complex line of beauty products. My sister Noemi Salas has been my personal life coach throughout my life and she didn’t even know it. When we talked about having our own product line, we wanted to give back. Soon we will be partnering up with Safe Haven of Ft Worth to get women ready to take on their next business adventure. This is just the beginning for us.

Has it been a smooth road?
This has not been a smooth road at all. But I wouldn’t change a thing! All the challenges in my life have made me the person that I am today. From Working 2 jobs to make hair a success Having to leave my babies to go on the road to taking a leap and investing on new career opportunities. Missing special events and holidays. Quitting a salon that I worked in for almost ten years and going on my own was the scariest thing I have ever done in my life. I am the only provider for my home so leaving to start my own suite was terrifying.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Queen Bee Studios I specialize in Color, corrective color, custom colors or specialty colors. Women’s cutting, undercuts, and designs. Mens cutting/barbering/ designs. Facial waxing. Working on multicultural hair. Brazilian blowouts. Extensions and more. But I feel that what sets Queen Bee Studio is the fact that I love to share and coach other stylist on success. I share knowledge but I also share business and marketing tools to keep us all ahead of the game.

Babyliss Pro I do all of the above but in the industry, I am known as the queen of Up Doo’s. I feel there are plenty of queens out there that can do what I can do so taking this title really isn’t something that I would say belongs to me but I do take pride in Special events hair.

Hairollers by J & B I’d say we specialize in making your special event as worry-free as possible. From our team coming to you, Special Event hair, Barbering, Nails and last but not least Makeup. But we also bring education to the DFW community. We are known for conducting all-day seminars jam packed full of education for our fellow stylist who strive to become better behind the chair.

And last but not least BX Haircare Our product line is known for a healthy hair complex that will leave the hair stronger by using Biotin, Cucumber, Coconut oil, and other elements to leave hair stronger and healthier without weighing it down or using too many harsh chemicals.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel that our city is a wonderful place to start a business due to so many wonderful opportunities that our metroplex can provide. There are not enough of us entrepreneurs in the DFW area. I feel we all need to start with a small business and grow from there. Start with a team of people that will hold you accountable for what you say you will do or push to do. Surround your self with like-minded entrepreneurs. I feel if we all share with each other our ideas, we can all create success.
