Today we’d like to introduce you to Bee Vang.
Bee, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve spent all of my career in the restaurant industry with a degree in Hospitality Business from Michigan State University. Opening a restaurant of my own has always been something that I’ve wanted to do as a means to share with our friends and family my passion for food and hospitality.
The name Wood & Grain Bistro comes from the combination of my passion for food and woodworking. All the tabletops and woodworking in the restaurant was done by myself, along with most of the buildout process. My wife and I wanted to create something that could be established as a neighborhood staple focused on local products and building community.
We just recently passed our one-year anniversary: hosted a private dinner for the Mayor of Bedford, vow renewal celebrations, baby showers for our community regulars, and the first series of our seasonal supper club. Since we are only open for breakfast and lunch, we use our restaurant space as a private venue in the evenings. This allows us to create special menus designed to our client’s needs.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a pretty smooth road for us. We have had the full support of our families to help us whenever needed.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Wood & Grain Bistro – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Wood & Grain Bistro is a fast-casual restaurant focused on serving breakfast and lunch with a scratch kitchen. We source our coffee from Avoca and our bread from The Proof Bakery. This builds on our theme of community and supporting other small businesses. We are the neighborhood bistro for Bedford, TX.
We are known for our homemade thyme biscuits, served with our peppered gravy or jalapeño cheddar gravy. Our customers can taste the difference in freshness. We take a great amount of pride in our food and restaurant setting. My wife has filled the shelves in the dining room with books that our customers can take and return, as well as leave a book they would like to share with others.
Customers love the food and modern feel of our restaurant in a smaller city. The tone of our bistro is comparable to dining in Dallas or Fort Worth. We spend as much time as possible in the dining room building relationships with our customers. We enjoying meeting first-time customers as well as catching up with our regulars.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The DFW is a great metroplex for restaurants and entrepreneurs. As a Michigan native, we studied the growth of the DFW area in our hospitality courses in college. After graduating during one of the worst times (2009) for graduates to find jobs, I moved to Dallas because of their continued growth in restaurants and entertainment businesses.
