Today we’d like to introduce you to William Behr and Dawn Richardson.
William and Dawn, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When we first met, each of us was in the midst of a divorce. While this is a difficult and unfortunate life experience, both of us were looking for the positive side of our life changes. One of the ways we chose to begin the healing process was through our mutual love of art and the medium of photography. In 2014, our first opportunity to work together was in photographing a friend and client’s wedding. Through capturing this wedding and seeing the quality of the results, we chose to team up together to create a photography partnership. The results have been fantastic!
Our partnership has flourished as a result of a mutual respect, desire to exceed our client’s expectations and providing high quality images.
Even though we are partners and we photograph together, as artists we have different interests and strengths. We have very different perspectives on the world around us. Because of our past life experiences, it allows each of us a unique interpretation of our world.
Above all else, we take a tremendous amount of pride in pleasing our clients, and are highly competitive with one another to push each other to be better. Striving for constant improvement, we attend workshops and keep ourselves up-to-date on the ever-changing trends in the photography industry.
Has it been a smooth road?
A business partnership of any kind is still the merging of two individuals and a relationship commitment. With any relationship, there will always be challenges and obstacles. Communication is at the top of the list of challenges. For example, working out how to decide when one partner once to pursue a project and the other prefers not. It is all about finding common ground without compromise the other partner as an artist.
Another challenge is as we go through life, we still have our personal lives where we are experiencing successes and failures, and it’s within those that we continue to mold ourselves. Finding the appropriate outlet to pursue our individual photography desires also poses challenges in terms of time and compromise.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We have extensively photographed weddings over the past several years. However, in order to remain fresh and our images unique to each wedding, we have scaled back on the number of weddings we photograph each year. By being more selective, we can provide the greatest quality work to our clients.
Because we both have been members of the Fort Worth community for many years, we focus our event photography now on organizations that give back to the community. The organizations of which we are proud to partner with include Jewel Charity and Volunteers of America.
Other unique aspects of our photography business include set/still photography for independent film in Texas. Dawn is a regional photographer for A Beautiful Body Project, an organization which empowers women. We also have been retained by local chambers of commerce to photograph tourist regions in the state and national and state parks. We’ve also been provided the opportunity to be guest moderators and contributing photographers for social media platforms which showcase the State of Texas.
We also do all types of headshots including corporate, musicians, actors and more. With Bill’s background in commercial real estate, we also do professional architectural photography for commercial properties.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
We feel you make your own successes wherever you make the commitment. However, Texas’ diverse population, industry, geography and tourism, allows for a constant stream of work for a photographer, no matter your focus.
