Coats Homes originated as a partnership with a 50-year-old homebuilding company. Under Ben’s leadership as a second generation builder and Dallas local, Coats Homes has evolved into a full service team of professionals able to meet their clients’ full range of design and home building needs.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I don’t know any entrepreneurs who would say that starting a company is a smooth process, and Coats Homes has been no exception. Our goal has always been to create a smooth and easy client experience regardless of iron sharpening iron behind the scenes.

We are honored to serve the Park Cities and Preston Hollow neighborhoods as a custom home builder. At Coats Homes, we believe a home should be personal. It should inspire you. It should be uniquely yours. We approach each project with a passionate emphasis on timeless architecture, craftsmanship, and personal style. Coats Homes challenges the dynamics of the homebuilding market by taking a quality-driven, team-based approach. We want to serve people with excellence and we bring that attitude to all facets of our business. The market is desperate for a building firm with a fresh take on how clients deserve to be served. With our team-based approach we feel we are achieving our goals more and more each year in delivering excellence to clients in a market where all too often you hear the opposite.
Furthermore, at Coats Homes, we believe that it’s our duty to “love our neighbors as ourselves” (Matthew 22:39). In collaboration with key organizations like 2ndSaturday and Act for Justice, and by using our resources as a homebuilder, we are able to serve our Dallas neighbors in west and south Dallas by tearing down abandoned homes that serve as magnets for crime.
What were you like growing up?
I have been blessed with excellent role models in my life, especially my grandfather, dad, and father-in-law. I consider each of them instrumental in my life, each providing different types of inspiration—but all with the same undertones of biblical principles. Each role model maintaining their focus on loving and building a relationship with God and loving and serving others.
I am inspired by my wife, Jen, and my five kids, who are a daily reminder to go out and serve others.
I also find inspiration living in Dallas and drawing on its rich history of amazing architects and designers who have forged the way, and I am incredible thankful for my Coats Homes team—I’m a firm believer that their teamwork and dedication drives the company’s success.
And I’m huge on client feedback—I make a point to ask our clients how we can better serve them throughout the process so that we can continue to grow as a company. Asking for their feedback is very humbling but so necessary!
