Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Lamm.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ben. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Big picture, I have always been focused on taking the innovation and emerging tech that’s hitting the market and making sure we’re applying it to the business of making humanity better.
Through Chaotic Moon (acquired by Accenture), I worked on leveraging technology to build software and hardware for military and civilian use to make the world better and safer for all. For example, Project Sentiri was leveraged to both help the visually impaired and in military applications for breach and clear. Along those lines, we also created a defensive non-lethal drone response system, surveillance drone and biometric tattoos (patent pending) that were applicable both for the military and the civilian population as a whole.
Through Conversable (acquired by LivePerson), we took on customer care and helping businesses grapple with the actual business opportunities and effects of AI. We created solutions for TGI Fridays, Wingstop, Marvel, and many, many more.
Now, we’re taking the next wave of innovation and emerging technology – built around machine intelligence – and applying it to solve some of our greatest challenges. With Hypergiant Industries and its tech R&D divisions, we have the opportunity to create solutions, products, and companies for both commercial and federal use to make the world better and safer for all. The Hypergiant teams are fast at work in all AI-related realms including deep learning, machine intelligence, programmatic 3-D modeling, computer vision, orbital AI and more.
I think if you look at my work side-by-side, the common thread is taking emerging technology, often in its most nascent form, and building companies and products that help the private and public sector better serve our society.
Along the way, I’ve had the honor of serving on the advisory board of amazing companies like the Planetary Society and the Arch Mission Foundation, and as a mentor for some of Texas’ best and brightest young entrepreneurs.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Of course not, and anyone who has told you “yes” is lying. One of the most consistent challenges I’ve faced is the balance between meteoric growth and sanity, for lack of a better word. Both in terms of company culture and my own life, the strain that building a company creates requires a lot of attention and care – two things that you’re already running low on when you’re a CEO.
Growth presents challenges culturally, strategically, and operationally, and has been a powerful test of making sure that we’re not just growing for growing’s sake, but growing in a direction that reflects our vision. I’ve learned a lot of hard and important lessons about making sure you are addressing it early and often and finding the right balance between moving at the speed of light and pausing to make sure you’re doing it in a sustainable way.
Please tell us about Hypergiant Industries.
Hypergiant Industries is the AI industrial complex for leading global enterprises and governments. We help major institutions innovate with breakthrough machine intelligence-driven technology, and make sense of data at the intersection of critical infrastructures.
The solutions, products, and companies we create support our customers on their mission to speed beyond norms in an increasingly competitive and advanced world. We are already working with major companies in Oil and Gas, Retail, Government, CPG, and more.
The product innovation of Hypergiant Industries is fed by its tech divisions, Hypergiant Sensory Sciences and Hypergiant Galactic Systems are the first two we have announced publicly.
Hypergiant Sensory Sciences is using computer vision and AI to solve problems around core pieces of infrastructure – from energy, oil, and gas, to healthcare and defense. More specifically, they are using deep learning, neural networks, and 3-D modeling to help create an intelligent visual system that scales human perception beyond what we’re currently capable of.
Hypergiant Galactic Systems is creating orbital AI by combining the latest in machine intelligence, satellite, and orbital technologies. Hypergiant Galactic Systems uses ML, deep learning and advanced imaging techniques to capture the data of this new space age –– truly, space is just another API, and the data from it has applications in everything from oil and gas, to land management, to more. Taking it a step further, it of course also has military applications such as monitoring land and sea, helping soldiers on missions, etc.
Hypergiant Space-Age Solutions, the commercialization arm of the syndicate, helps make sure these technologies are turned into custom solutions that map directly back to each customers business goals.
Together, each division creates an ecosystem of innovation, user-centric solutions, and a new model for solving business needs using the best technology available on this Earth today, and tomorrow.
What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
It’s hard to pick just one, but I would say that the launch of Hypergiant, as it was both the culmination of a lot of my career so far, and the start of some truly wonderful things.
The idea for Hypergiant was born in 2016 and launched publicly in February 2018. Throughout my career, I saw firsthand the incredible amount of false promises there was in the enterprise software market, and how there was a huge gap in the market for AI solutions that truly delivered. I also saw the potential that it had to truly make a difference in this world.
I hold myself and the businesses I create to the highest standards of innovation, impact, and responsibility, and Hypergiant is the apex of that mandate.
