Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben McCracken.
Ben, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We started our band about five and a half years ago, in Dallas, Texas. We’re a three-piece, rock, and roll band with an upright bass. When we decided on our name, we didn’t have any real expectations or goals, but rather a simple mission statement. We didn’t want to be bound by genre limitations and we wanted to put on entertaining shows. Over the years, our sound has evolved in ways and been honed in others. So far, we have released one full length and three eps, as well as a few singles here and there. We’ve toured across North America and Australia. We’ll be heading to Europe in 2020, as well as releasing our second full length. For now, we have a new ep out called, “s8n”.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has certainly been and still is a rocky road. We’ve lost three vans so far, a drummer, and been on some lackluster tours. But over the years the tours and shows overall have gotten better. Every time we lose a van, we get a better one and the last year with Jimmy in the band(current drummer) has been the best year we’ve ever had. The challenges and setbacks always teach us lessons. We’ve tried to remain unflappable most of the time, and that in its self has probably kept us together through it all.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
We’re a band. I play guitar and sing. We’re proud of having our own style and sound. We also love playing shows and being on the road. We are a rock and roll three piece, with an upright bass, that blends punk rock, metal, country and reggae.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
For me, success in music is being a part of the contribution. Being a player and striving for proliferation. There are, of course, a lot of other signifiers for success. The other big one for me is growing your audience and writing music that resonates and changes people’s lives. That’s what we want to do as a band.
