Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth DiCarlo.
Beth, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Being born and raised in Dallas, the idea of celebrating special occasions and holidays was something I was drawn to from my earliest memories. Setting up elaborate surprises for family and loved ones became second nature to me. When I graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2007 with a degree in microbiology, I moved back to Dallas and ended up taking a job as a Landman in the Oil & Gas Industry. As soon as I began working with the company, I got in with the party planning committee. Together we planned every birthday celebration, baby shower, seasonal celebration, annual year-end party, etc. Shortly after, I married the love of my life and worked for five years before welcoming our firstborn, at which point I decided to become a stay-at-home mom. It’s funny looking back on my experience in the corporate world because I would have never guessed a few short years later, I would be running my own event planning company.
I continued my love for creating beautiful events as a full-time SAHM for my family as a hobby. Still, after our second daughter was born, I eventually struggled with the isolation that comes from being home all day with little ones. I wanted and needed more in my life, and my husband, who has always believed in my ability to be both an entrepreneur and to create beautiful events, knew I just needed the start to make it happen. We soon decided we would go forward with setting up a company, and it gave me a wonderful opportunity to chase my dreams. From that point, I took a summer course to become a Certified Wedding Planner and honed my craft with every single opportunity that came my way. Just like with anything in life, the more practice I had, the better I became at what I was doing. I still learn something new at every event and still deeply love what I am doing.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have been on the scenic route for the beginning of this journey. Shortly after getting started, we got the surprise of a lifetime with our son Owen. Between having him with me full-time during the day and learning to run a business from the ground-up, you could say I’ve kept myself busy. I think the largest struggle has been finding that seemingly unattainable work/life balance we all seek out. There are times I am much busier with work and end up missing one of the many dress-up days at school or forget that my husband and I haven’t been on a date in two months or that I haven’t spoken to a beloved friend in way too long. It feels as though it’s becoming slightly easier as our children get older, but managing their needs, schedules, and extracurricular activities while continuing to try to grow my business at the rate I’d prefer has been the greatest struggle for me so far. This “struggle” is something I welcome with open arms because it means I have found something I love to do that means so much to me.

Joyful day creates one-of-a-kind event experiences through a bit of whimsy—fun pops of color and on-trend décor. I have worked with my clients from full-scale planning to design and day-of coordination. I’ve done local and out-of-state wedding ceremonies from backyards to the most beautiful hotel ballrooms, I do corporate and charity events, as well as backdrop installations and parties of every kind. With each and every event, I try to create an overall experience that is both unique to my client’s needs and unforgettable for guests attending. In this Pinterest and DIY world we are living in, I know there are so many resources out there to help create amazing events, so I feel honored when my clients entrust me with creating their vision. I am most proud when I see their reaction to how it all comes together.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My family, friends, neighbors and colleagues have been my biggest champions. From words of encouragement to hiring me and spreading the word to others, I feel fortunate to have amazing cheerleaders all around me. I have become close with so many incredible women in the community and would not be where I am today without them and their unwavering support. That celebration and encouragement from others have been pivotal to my success thus far.
