Today we’d like to introduce you to Bethany Kempfe.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My dad was an avid and quite talented photographer. He is still the first person to capture memories during family holidays or a simple stroll through a park. It was his love and knowledge of photography plus my creative soul which started me on this journey. I received my first point and shoot at a young age and basically snapped until I would run out of film, then start all over again. Yes film! I loved when the film was FINALLY developed and I could relive memories through photos. Fast forward through school, sports, musicals, art classes and more, I never lost my love for photography, but didn’t spend as much time with it as I would have liked to.

It was about six years ago when my now husband started to encourage my love for photography. He saw something when I was behind the camera and provided me with the tool I needed most – a new Canon 7D. God bless him. I found myself asking friends if they would like family photos taken and from there my photography business grew.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have a corporate job and sometimes it isn’t easy to go from a weekend filled with photography sessions that connect me with amazing people, to an office job. I enjoy my corporate home right now, but my goal is to transition into a full-time photographer over the next year or two. It energizes me and I know that comes from my love for creativity and people.

Photography is always evolving and there are countless photographers in the DFW area. Building my client base is important to me as it is to any photographer. Not only do I look for new clients, but I want to build my client base with people that are evolving also. People that want to grow and who are looking for a photographer to be a part of their lives for years to come. I have quite a few clients like that now, and it’s humbling to be a part of their lives year after year.

Bethany Kempfe Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I have had the opportunity to photograph a bit of everything; weddings, NYFW, fashion bloggers, families, seniors, fitness gurus and newborns. As of late I have unending requests for newborn sessions. I actually call them newborn lifestyle shoots. I bring the studio to the clients’ house to help make the first few weeks a bit easier. Celebrating life in the comfort of my clients’ home is nothing short of magical. The interactions between these families are intimate and they seem to pass by all too quickly.

Many clients have told me how much they love the natural and candid moments. Life is a beautiful mess as the saying goes and I strive to capture those times that are “perfect” and “imperfect”. In the words of Ansel Adams, “You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen, the book you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved”. I believe that it is my duty and absolute honor as a photographer, to my clients, to capture moments that show emotion and relationships.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me as a photographer is hearing from my clients that I get them. I want to be able to give my clients feelings that they are able to tuck away and not forget.
