Meet Bianca Grant of Virtual Business Services of Texas in South Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca Grant.

Bianca, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit, but did not allow it to manifest until I went through a very difficult time with my health. I was working in the Dallas ISD and had the goal of becoming a bilingual teacher. I was working full-time and going to school part-time. One day I left work early to go on a job interview with a new school. On the way to the interview, I was sideswiped by a car that ran the red light. By the time the police arrived on the scene, I was going into these involuntary convulsions that I had absolutely no control over. I ended up in the hospital with a condition called pseudoseizures – temporarily unable to walk, drive, and sometimes talk for many months. I was put on disability leave from the school district. After my disability ran out, I was unable to work with children in the same capacity as before.

Now I needed to do something totally different, something where I ran the show and worked when I wanted. I loved typing, so I started taking freelance transcription jobs. After working with a business owner that needed transcripts proofed and edited for a team of ten employees, I decided to venture out into content writing to add that to my list of experiences. As time went on I would get inquiries about other admin tasks, such as calendar management, bookkeeping, invoicing, and other back-office tasks. This was my calling! I crafted a full-fledged virtual assistant firm, working with startups, entrepreneurs, creatives, and other small business owners. Over the last year, I have niched down and now offer business operation and content services to entrepreneurs and small business owners, where I help them streamline their businesses for success through administrative consulting, business automation services, and content services. I know firsthand what is like to take on business by the seat of your pants, and the importance of having systems and procedures in place. I am on the grind to provide that for my clients each day.

Has it been a smooth road?
This journey has been anything but a smooth ride! At times, I would have to contend with negative thinking and negative self-talk. I would tell myself, “Office procedures and processes are simple… why would anyone pay for services such as these?” I have worked to eliminate these thoughts from my mind and heart because I DO offer something entrepreneurs and business owners need. Most of the time, it’s not until they get on a discovery call with me that they understand there are gaps in their back-office procedures. I also have a little problem with patience. When I envision something, I want to get started. I want to move ahead. I want it to come to fruition and let the cards fall where they may. However, when you are building a business, you have to be patient with the process. That is something I am continuing to learn and work on every day.

Lastly, I had to learn to be comfortable with stepping out on my own. In the beginning, I thought I needed a partner in this business to make it look good and attract the proper clientele. I did have a partner for a time, but it actually taught me a much-needed lesson: I am knowledgeable and capable and I can stand in my own light. I finally gave myself permission to be strong, courageous, and shine on my own.
