Thanks for sharing your story with us Bianca. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In 2014, I was desperate to know my purpose in life so I fasted and prayed for 40 days until it was revealed to me. One of those purposes was to have my own natural skincare company. At the time, it did not align with what I had in mind for my life and was not something I ever envisioned nor wanted. However, as time went on, I started to break out severely with cystic acne covering my face along with dry peeling skin, eczema, and dark marks. Instantly, it was a reminder of that night when my purpose was revealed to me. I knew then that I needed to get serious so I started researching and studying in-depth natural ingredients, essential oils, and clays that are beneficial for the skin. After a few years of researching, attending classes, and experimenting, this started to become my passion. Although I did not know everything and still learning the ins and outs of managing a business, I decided to step out on faith anyways and launch “Flawless” to the public in November 2019.
During the worse of my journey, I suffered from low self-esteem and barely any confidence to the point that it was hard to even look at my reflection in the mirror. When it came time to figure out a name for the business, my husband and I decided to name it Flawless based off one of the many scriptures that encouraged me while suffering from severe acne and that is Song of Solomon 4:7, “You are altogether beautiful, there is no flaw in you.” I want my brand to be a constant reminder to anyone suffering from skin ailments that they are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God. Flawless is still evolving and I am amazed how much we have grown since last year and I am looking forward to the journey we have ahead of us.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been many challenges along the way. From figuring out the right formulas to learning how to manage a business with no business experience. Learning about marketing, branding, wholesaling and so much more.
It’s also been a challenge working a full time demanding job, being a newlywed, and managing a new business that’s growing. It’s been challenging to have a unique selling point in a saturated market with hundreds of other reputable natural skincare companies out there. So we try to keep our prices as low as possible, however it’s been hard to break even and be profitable with having your customers understand. It’s also been a challenge depending on certain suppliers, especially during Covid-19 with bottles being in high demand, a lot of times, the ingredients or supplies we need are out of stock so we either have to wait or find another bulk supplier. Each day we are literally learning something new and trying to evolve our brand.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Flawless – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a natural soap company that makes handmade cold process soap using the traditional cold process method along with natural liquid soap, toner, moisturizer, and exfoliators. I am most proud that currently, I am making everything myself while my husband is very hands-on with doing all the customer service, mailing, and administrative work. What sets us apart is that we are a Christian soap company hoping to help others with their skincare needs while sharing how much God values them.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our goal for the future is to continue to evolve in hopes to one day grow big enough to own our own storefront and sale internationally. We are also hoping that as the brand grows, we can start a ministry in sharing the gospel to others around the world.
