Meet Big Nardo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Big Nardo.

Hi Big, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I released my last body of work, ‘Soulstice’, in 2020 – during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. From that time to now, the world has changed significantly with regards to both internal and external factors. I feel like we’ve all had our realities shift a bit – whether it be from job changes, family/friend changes, or life just ‘lifing’. For me, this time really feels like it has been marked by wins and losses – sometimes the losses even have outweighed the wins but that’s just a part of the struggle. This led me down the path of creating my latest project – ‘Casualties of War’. I took a more introspective approach with this tape, I guess sitting in the house can do that to you. As we were starting to go back outside, I was inspired by the changes between my current day-to-day and how different things were prior to the start of the pandemic as well as the internal changes to my mindset and outlook on the world. I’ve taken all of this and bundled it up into these 11 tracks I’m delivering to you in early October. In a game full of machismo and lies, I took an approach of vulnerability and transparency – I hope the world can relate to and appreciate that with this next drop.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. As I mentioned earlier, these last few years have been earmarked by loss and change. While change is typically a good thing, sometimes it can be uncomfortable. With this lack of comfort comes room for growth though, and I can appreciate these opportunities and have been working to shift my mindset from looking at loss/change as a negative to looking at them as pivot points in my life, forks in the road that give me the power to choose how I want to move forward.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a creative – hailing from Vicksburg Mississippi, I’ve been here in Dallas for the last 6 years honing my craft. I came out here immediately after college – where I was a barber, graphic designer, party promoter, entertainer. I took some of these skills and applied them here to kick off my music career and further build my foundation in the Graphic Design, Videography, and Photography fields. Outside of these, my passion is entrepreneurship and getting our Black communities back into a place where we control our financial destiny – I feel this shines through my music, art, and financial ventures. This Quote from Tupac perfectly sums up my approach to my life – “If you believe, then you can achieve – just look at me.”

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Dallas is a great place for making business connections and chasing your dreams/passions, also being thrown into the mix in a big city like this forces you to expand past who you were when you first came. Sometimes, Dallas(or any Big City for that matter..) can consume you and you lose the essence of who you as an individual. I think that is the main thing I dislike about the city, outside of the lack of staple food joints.
