Today we’d like to introduce you to Billy Island.
Billy, before we jump into specific questions about the organization, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Outcry in the Barrio of Dallas is an organization that is committed to seeing the addict, alcoholic and oppressed delivered. Our goal is to reach the lost on the streets of Dallas, Texas. The city of Dallas is the need of the love of God presented in the downtrodden areas. We are dedicated to reaching out year around. Here is a little bit more information about us and our vision. Our vision is to know Christ and make Him known to a lost world. To transform crime and drug-infested neighborhoods through the power of Jesus Christ. To rescue men and women off the streets, lead them to Christ, and train them with the word of God, through the principle of discipleship.
Nothing says it best then the scripture Paul states in Corinthians. “Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. God chose things despised by the world; things counted as nothing at all and used them to bring to nothing that the world considers important. As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:27-29
Outcry in the Barrio is open 24/7 for those overcome by drugs, alcohol, and lifestyles that have left them weary, empty and miserable. The good news of Jesus Christ is the message that resounds throughout the day. Every day, souls are saved and lives restored. Foundations are being formed and destinies are being forged. What a difference Jesus makes, from burdens to society, to men that now contribute to the very lifeline of their communities. Outcry in the Barrio is as beacon high on a hill emitting the love of God to the world.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t always been easy. Outcry in the Barrio’s journey began in 2 bedroom house with willing residence sleeping on the floor. We prayed for food, clothing, and the resources to provide for those in need.
We’d love to hear more about your organization.
We started Outcry in the Barrio February 26, 2011. We have an inpatient drug-rehab that is free of charge. We are known for going where most people will not reach people that are homeless, addicted, murderous, and hopeless. We have reached well over 7,500 people since opening our doors! We are a unique organization because our secret sauce is Jesus Christ. We see people recover daily through His power!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Outcry in the Barrio is under the fellowship of Outcry in the Barrio global. Our central location where we all begun was in San Antonio, Texas where we are under the leadership of Pastor Jubal Garcia. We are under the leadership and have partnered with churches and like minded affiliates like Prestonwood Baptist Church and their leadership Dr. Jack Graham and teaching Pastor Jarrett Stephens. In The City For Good and their CEO Terry Kittleson along with our Advisors Larry Mentzer and Scott Olson. These individuals have changed the trajectory of our ministry, where we have launched another location on the Southeast side of Dallas. And have gotten countless hours of counsel from all of these groups of people.
