Meet Blake Stock of Melissa, Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Blake Stock.

Hi Blake , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My golf journey began when I was just two years old. My grandfather and dad both played, but the game was never forced on me. They’ve always said I picked up a club on my own and immediately tried to swing like a golfer. Soon after, my grandfather cut down some of his old clubs to fit me, and that’s where it all started.

By age six, after attending a few junior academy sessions, I began competing in tournaments and quickly fell in love with the game. I continued playing throughout my childhood and competed in high school at Waco Midway High School before moving on to play collegiate golf at McLennan Community College in 2014. My time there was unforgettable not just for the golf, but for the lifelong friendships I built with my teammates. In 2016, we won the NJCAA National Championship, a moment I’ll always be proud of.

I later transferred to Stephen F. Austin State University to continue both my education and golf career. Every stop along the way brought new relationships, experiences, and growth both on and off the course.

I’ve always known golf would be a part of my life. After graduating with my bachelor’s degree in Sports Business, I moved to the North Texas area and pursued professional golf. The sport is demanding and stressful at times, but that challenge is part of what makes it so rewarding. During the early years of my professional career, I also chose to grow in other areas of the industry, which led me to my current role as an Assistant Golf Professional at Hurricane Creek Country Club in Anna, Texas.

While my journey has taken a few unexpected turns, my ultimate goal remains the same: to compete at the highest level. I’m still chasing that dream, taking a few different stepping stones to get there.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Golf has never felt like a smooth road to me. It’s always been challenging, humbling, and rewarding all at once. When COVID hit, it had a major impact on my professional playing career and forced me to pause and reevaluate my path. At the same time, I saw the opposite effect within the golf industry. Country clubs experienced a surge in memberships, rounds increased, and people were more excited about golf than ever. That contrast showed me how unpredictable the journey can be and how important it is to stay adaptable.

There are constant obstacles, whether they come from my game, the financial side of competing, or life outside of golf. Every day on the course feels different, and I’ve learned you can’t expect perfection. You show up, work with what you have that day, and keep moving forward.

What I’ve always loved, though, is the grind. I enjoy putting in the time to practice, even when things aren’t clicking. Those tough days are often the ones that make you better if you’re willing to stick with it. There have been stretches where my scores didn’t reflect the effort I was putting in, which can be frustrating, but those moments built my patience and mental toughness. Golf has a way of forcing you to look in the mirror and take responsibility, and that has shaped who I am just as much as it has shaped me as a player.

At the end of the day, all of those ups and downs are part of my journey. The setbacks make the good moments more meaningful, and the grind is something I truly take pride in. It hasn’t been a perfect path, but it’s mine and I’m still pushing forward.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Right now, I’m still putting in the work to practice and compete in events through the Northern Texas PGA Section and other professional tournaments, while also working full-time as an Assistant Golf Professional at Hurricane Creek Country Club. Balancing competition with my role at the club keeps me grounded in the game from every angle — as a player, a teacher, and someone helping others enjoy golf the same way I always have.

My role at the club goes far beyond the golf shop. I spend time playing with members, giving lessons, running junior clinics, assisting with club fittings, and helping golfers of all levels grow their game. I’m also involved in tournament operations, merchandising, tee sheet management, outings, and day-to-day golf operations. A big part of my job is simply creating a great experience for members, and I take a lot of pride in that. Teaching has become one of the most meaningful parts of my career. Watching someone improve, gain confidence, and start enjoying the game more because of something I helped them with is an incredible feeling.

One of the proudest moments of my journey was winning the NJCAA National Championship in 2016 with McLennan Community College. That win meant even more because we fell just short the year before, and that experience taught me resilience that still drives me today. Since then, new proud moments are created every day through my teaching career. Watching my students grow, gain confidence, and reach goals they once thought were out of reach is incredibly rewarding. Seeing junior golfers make their high school varsity teams, break personal scoring records, or simply develop a deeper love for the game gives me just as much fulfillment as my own competitive achievements. Being able to play a role in their progress and passion for golf is something I truly take pride in.

Even with everything I do at the club, my long-term goal hasn’t changed. I still have the drive to compete at the highest level of professional golf. The path looks a little different than I once imagined, but every lesson taught, every member I help, and every round I grind through is another step forward. I’m building my game, my knowledge, and my experience all at the same time — and I’m still chasing that dream.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The qualities that I believe are most important to my success are my work ethic, faith, and drive. I’ve always been someone who’s willing to put in the time and effort needed to reach my goals. Whether it’s my job at the club, my practice sessions, or helping others improve their game, I try to approach everything with the mindset of doing it the right way and giving it my full attention.

Balancing a full-time role as an Assistant Golf Professional while continuing to train and compete is definitely a challenge, but I see that as part of the journey. It takes discipline, time management, and a lot of commitment, but I believe the process is shaping me for what’s ahead. My faith plays a big role in how I handle both the highs and lows. I trust that every step — even the difficult ones — is part of God’s plan for me.

That belief, combined with my drive to keep improving, is what pushes me to keep moving forward. No matter how busy life gets or how tough things feel, I’m committed to continuing the work and making the most of every opportunity in front of me.
