Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Klinedinst.
Alex, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in an entrepreneurial family. Both of my grandfather’s built their own businesses as well as my dad who jumped into the oil and gas industry in the 80’s when the industry was at rock bottom. I’ve watched the ups and downs of the entrepreneurial lifestyle all my life and knew from a very young age that I would follow the family tradition someday.
I am also a right brain to the core who sees the world in words and images over numbers and equations. I have always loved storytelling through imagery and creative writing. Throughout my childhood, I would scrapbook family vacations, events with friends and my daily life. I loved looking at a blank page and filling it with beautiful design that told a story. In high school and college, I wrote and designed for the school newspaper. In college, I majored in Advertising and PR with a heavy design influence and post-grad, all jobs have stretched me both creatively and professionally.
As I have grown, so has technology. With the onset of social media, new digital design programs and ways of communication, I am able to take my passion to a much larger level that multiplies daily.
I’ve worked with large media companies, national companies, non-profits and small family businesses, but no matter the size, one thing is universal: they all have a story to tell. While working full-time, I took my passion and turned it into a side business that grew into a full time business and as of July 2018, Bluebird Creative is my full time career. And…ironically, I am the same age as my dad was when he started his first business.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely NOT! Nothing about the process of pursuing your passion is easy. There are days I don’t sleep or see my husband. Weekends? What is a weekend but more time to grow your business? Friends call and ask to meet up but you have no energy to spend time with them because you have worked yourself to the bone for the past 14 days straight. Was it easy? No, but when you realize that there is no limit to you success, it is all worth it.
I no longer see my career as a Monday through Friday 9-5 gig, but rather, a lifestyle. And while that may sound terrible to some, it allows me to be more creative and gives me the flexibility to work when I need from anywhere.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Bluebird Creative is a boutique marketing company specializing in social media strategy and management, digital strategy, brand identity, marketing strategy, and project management. While I started in branding and social media management, my business has taken a life of its own and I now work with both small and large businesses on various aspects of their marketing.
What makes Bluebird Creative unique is that we are so specialized. As I was building my business, I heard many complaints from the business community about how slow and inefficient marketing agencies have become. While I do believe there is a need for marketing agencies, I can see why these complaints were warranted. What sets Bluebird apart is that a client can come to me with a rebranding project and receive specialized service in all aspects of their project. Through my skills and my network of vendors including videographers, photographers, influencers and developers I can custom tailor the best team to meet and exceed the needs of my clients while bringing in a level of expertise and specialization that is unmatched.
What were you like growing up?
I was a dreamer… always doing something creative whether it was dancing, writing or designing.
