Today we’d like to introduce you to Bob Baumann.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I love what I do. I’m blessed to be able to follow my passion but you know my life has not always been that way.
In 1986, I drove trucks for a living. I got a call early the morning of July 10 and my mother had died very unexpectedly. I had a brother died when I was 10 and it was a difficult time in my life and then I had the opportunity to meet a man who changed my life.
He taught me to follow my passion, that the world is as I see it, that if I believe I can I will, If I believe I can’t, I won’t.
Well my passion has always been clothing. My dad always taught me, son if you’re not going to do it right, when will you have the time to come back and do it over? We live in a fast-paced world and I don’t have time to do things over so it is important to me that we always do things right the first time.
If you want to buy clothes you can go buy clothes anywhere, we focus on building relationships. In fact, building relationships is the most honest thing I can say about what we do.
Were in partnership with our clients and between the two of us we are both creating a style that we want. I rely on their feedback to do that and they rely on our skills to make it happen.
What’s exciting is between the two of us the clients style gets better with time. The right clothes open the right doors. My name. My name is Bob Baumann and we change men’s lives.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Anything worth having is not easy! There have been many struggles along the way. I have always chosen to focus on the solutions and not the struggles.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
“What people don’t recognize is that 85 percent of our clients are people who don’t like clothes.” “They would rather go mow their yard than go shopping. So we try to create an experience that a guy would want to go through. We interview him for 15 minutes and try and find out who he is, what he does for a living, where he is in his career.… Then from there we try to show him as little as possible, and give him directions on how we would dress him.”
We want to help our clients get what they want out of life, and I know most men want to look good and get compliments, and they want it to be easy.
What makes us unique is we are not a traditional retail store, we have a 9000-sq. foot showroom but we are not open to the public. We are by appointment only. We also keep very detailed files on our clients. Tucked inside are swatches of every shirt, suit, and slack that they have ever bought from us, stapled into neat rows. Ginghams blend into solids, which blend into stripes. Ten years of style, lined up in a folder, ready for the next installment. This gives us and the client the ability to spend their money wisely.
What sets us apart? Walk in our front door and you will notice it immediately! We have the most unique men’s showroom in the Southwest.
Oh, and one more thing, all of our clothes are made in the United States of America!
What were you like growing up?
I had the opportunity to meet a man who changed my life.
He taught me to follow my passion, that the world is as I see it, that if I believe I can I will, If I believe I can’t, I won’t. That man was Zig ZIglar and 90 days after I met him I was no longer driving trucks, I was working for him.
He taught me to follow my passion and for me that was men’s fashion. In fact, when I drove 18 wheelers, I was the best dressed truck driver you ever saw. My parents had taught me how to dress and how the right clothes open the right doors.
So in 1991 I decided to be an Entrepreneur and start my own Company, Edward Baumann Clothiers. Fast forward to 2017 and what a ride it has been.
