Today we’d like to introduce you to Bobby Coston.
Bobby, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
“Excuse me! I think I’ve seen your picture somewhere before… Oh yeah! That’s right, it was in the dictionary next to KABLAM!!” See back then E-V-E-R-Y-B-O-D-Y loved the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, but I didn’t just love it, I studied it. I always aspired to be the charismatic and cool, but goofy kind of guy I loved to watch on TV. I would strut around the house charismatically jolting out lines from my favorite sitcoms just to make my mom and sister laugh. Putting on these little shows almost daily just because I wanted that to be me soooo badly! The cool kids on TV making it look so easy! I could easily compete with them!
If I wasn’t killing the whole house with laughter, I was sharpening my dance moves to my cheap little boom box blasting some throwback MJ, or the newest B2K CD, or even singing my little tone deaf heart out to “Ya Man Ain’t Me” by Chris Brown. As a kid, every day was a new way to entertain my household or me. I would always imagine me onstage singing and dancing, or in the newest movie bringing tears from an audience or laughter on a set. Throughout the years I tried to jump-start an acting career, but as a kid, it’s hard to convince your parents into the world of show business. I even enrolled in the choir at my school to try harnessing my vocal abilities and turning a lack of talent into growing skill. Even though I wasn’t professionally working as an actor, I found YouTube and began creating short skits with my circle! This led to BIG opportunities, like winning the National Taco Bell Live Mas Scholarship, not once but twice! Eventually leading me into the professional world of film acting!
Today, I am a professional working actor in the DFW and surrounding south central market. I’ve starred in over a dozen short films and videos. I’ve done commercials with stations like WFAA. I’ve even directed and starred in some of my own projects. I am a self-represented actor looking to continue growing in this business and hopefully one day work with the Fresh Prince himself.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s definitely not butter, BUT if you want it bad enough, it doesn’t matter. You’ll start to get insecure. Am I tall enough? Is my skin clear enough? Is my voice too shakey? You’ll find yourself going to 10 auditions within weeks, but maybe getting one or two callbacks (Maybe not the ones you were really hoping for). All the “no’s” and the people saying that “you should focus on something else.” will weigh heavy on your mind, and you’ll second guess something you’re passionate about. This isn’t a very lucrative career at the start, so working a regular job while trying to achieve your dreams can darken your spark. Then sometimes things will happen that you can’t control that will halt your progress but…
Just remember that all those things only have the power YOU give it and I want it bad, so any set back is minor for a MAJOR comeback.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Bobby Coston story. Tell us more about the business.
I am Bobby J. Coston Jr. an actor first, but also a creator/entertainer. I write, produce, direct, and edit my own skits for YouTube. I also do my best to bring my best performance on screen to provide the best entertainment experience for my audience.
As a marketing major, I know the value of branding, so I set myself apart by selling myself. I also set myself apart by learning everyone’s name on set and saying “thank you”, and “excuse me” because being friendly and having manners is a lost art!
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Definitely, within the next 5-10 years, I see myself moving closer to the coast where the market is a little bigger. From there I will be able to expand my resume even farther and get closer to working with some of my favorite directors and co-starring with some of my favorite actors. Hopefully, by then I will have landed a successful Hulu series or Netflix movie.

I’ve known BJ since he was a kid. I’ve watched him grow and it’s no surprise that he is who he is today! He’s so talented; I can’t wait to see where his journey takes him; not is not butter, but he wants it bad enough so like he said it doesn’t matter! Taking a chance on him will definitely be worth the risk!! WISHING YOU ALL THE BEST BOBBY CASTON!!

Love this young man and his determination in achieving what he wants in life, a degree, a family, and a career. He is awesome and had made us laugh throughout the years with his antics in short skits, y-tube videos, dance moves, etc. I am excited that he has this opportunity to do commercials and now movies. Continue your path BJ Coston Jr and don’t forget to give God the glory and some of your time and he will give you the desires of your heart.
