Today we’d like to introduce you to Bobbye Hill.
Hi Bobbye, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a proud son of Mr. Ray C. Hill & Mrs. Bobbie L. Hill and originally from Tyler, Texas (the Rose Capital of the world). I graduated from John Tyler High School; I was very involved in athletics (football, basketball & baseball). With multiple opportunities to play college sports, I decided to “walk on” as an unsigned basketball prospect & attended Tyler Junior College. The transition from high school to college (academically & athletic) was an adjustment. After two years, through commitment and a great support system, not only did I graduate with an associate degree, but I was recognized as an All-American. As a result, I received over 20 full-ride scholarship offers. After prayerful consideration and wise counsel, I chose Austin Peay State University over Washington State University, Florida International University, Eastern Kentucky University, Sam Houston State University, and several others.
While at Austin Peay, I achieved a great deal of success, including a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Corporate Communication as well as Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Regular Season Co-Champion and OVC Tournament Champion, which was an automatic berth to The NCAA Tournament (The Big Dance) in 2003. From 2003-2009, I played professional basketball in the ABA, NBDL, South America, Mexico, Venezuela & Canada. In 2009 I retired from professional basketball and Lifted Basketball was born. For over 15 years, we have helped over 300 clients train and develop their basketball skills as well as play at either the college and professional level. We have locations in Arlington, Grand Prairie and are currently working to expand to the Oklahoma City area.
Lastly, I’m a happily married father of two who attends Koinonia Church in Arlington, Texas.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Lifted Basketball’s journey has not been an easy road; one of the most difficult times we have experienced was during the global pandemic (COVID-19). Since we are a 100% in-person service provider, that period adversely affected our program, but at the same time, it allowed us to be creative and to continue to be an asset to our community. In 2019, we extended our services to assist with the basketball recruiting process. It helped to educate parents on how to navigate obstacles such as the coach’s evaluation process, how to identify the right program for their student-athletes, and how to get scholarship information. We also introduced our Lifted Basketball Virtual Academy, an internet-based platform allowing our clients to be social and interact with other players while doing basketball drills.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In addition to being a basketball skills trainer, I have also been in the education field for the last decade. I am a certified Physical Education teacher, and I have coached middle school and high school basketball teams. I’m most proud of the positive impact and results that I’ve witnessed through the course of my educational career. I’m looking forward to new challenges as I pursue an opportunity to coach at the college level.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I’m the youngest of 5 children. When I was growing up, I was very involved in church, singing in the choir, and I was also part of a group called Future Farmers of America. Fun fact is that I helped my father raised chickens and hogs. At the age of 8, I became heavily involved in sports, starting with baseball.
