Today we’d like to introduce you to Brad Ellis.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. After graduating with a BFA from the University of Tulsa, I moved to Dallas in 1987 to accept a job from American Airlines working in the advertising and marketing department. While I had a “day job” I was painting at night and on weekends, exhibiting my art in various venues across the city. I left American in 1997 to pursue an art career on a full-time basis. I have been represented by Craighead Green Gallery in Dallas for the last 20 years,
Has it been a smooth road? One of the main challenges with being an abstract painter is to continually find things that can inspire and inform my work in order to make art that will resonate with the viewer.
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Brad Ellis Art story. Tell us more about the business.
Brad Ellis is a mid-career, Texas-based artist whose focus is on abstract painting. Throughout his career he has continually experimented with imagery from tightly rendered, systematic patterns to loosely constructed, expressionistic compositions. He has distinguished himself by embracing the ancient medium of encaustic which is hot wax painting and is a process by which heated bees wax is mixed with pigments and applied to board or canvas and then fused to the surface with a heat source. The pure physicality of the paint combined with various collage elements render distinct textures and surface treatments that energize his abstract imagery with movement and excitement.
Brad earned his BFA from the University of Tulsa and his work has been represented by Craighead Green Gallery for nearly 20 years. His paintings are included in many prominent private and corporate art collections and is included in the U. S. State Department’s Art in Embassies Program, where his work is displayed in the Ambassador’s residence in Kampala, Uganda. As well, his paintings are featured in two recent books, Texas Abstract, Modern + Contemporary, published by Fresco Books and Encaustic Art in The Twenty-First Century, published by Schiffer.
