Today we’d like to introduce you to Brad Harlan.
Hi Brad, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Greetings from Big D. I’m Brad Harlan, Founder and CEO of Evolve candles. Much of early professional life was spent touring the world with international celebrities as a personal assistant. This small-town Texas boy quickly learned about the finer things of life while sipping wine and lighting candles during downtime. It seemed to me that these celebs always brought their candles along with them. I decided to follow suit, but I could never afford the luxurious brands they enjoyed. Several years later a close friend and travel companion was accompanying me to LA to visit one of the artists I had assisted, and she was actually pouring candles. When we asked about why she was doing this on her short time off from touring, she said that was the only way she could get the aromas that fit her needs. That sparked a thought. Why couldn’t I develop a brand that satisfied the needs of consumers and offer them at a price everyone could afford? Thus Evolve candles was conceived. After much research and testing, I knew I had a product that people could enjoy. Now I offer my creations for the candle enthusiasts of the world to explore. I encourage you to try one of my unique combinations. You’ll become a fan.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s never an easy road; I’ve had candles explode, not smell like I thought/wanted, but I have some wonderful mentors who have guided me. During the pandemic, it was hard to find the correct wicks, which was a struggle, but luckily I have found some great alternatives-they have become new favorites. All of the negatives eventually turned into positives.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I specialize in creating luxurious scents in beautiful vessels at affordable prices. I’m proud of what my friends have genuinely told me about the candles. They have stopped buying all other candles brands and exclusively buy from Evolve and have been some of my biggest marketing tools. This has helped me get to the point to hire help and expand. I would say that our scents set us apart. I mix all of the scents and hand pour all of the candles myself (when other help, I still mix all of the oils to make sure that the scents are what I’m envisioning.)

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t really believe in luck, but God has blessed me more than I could ever imagine. I’ve had an extraordinary life – touring in the music business with my favorite artist was more than I could have ever dreamed of…and that brought me to Evolve. The good…The bad – it all happens for a reason.
