Today we’d like to introduce you to Braeden Rogers.
Braeden, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My story dates back well over a decade at this point (I’m getting old). When I was in college, I picked up an interest in photography. What was initially a hobby quickly evolved into a career path for me. After I graduated, I went into business for myself full time and it was off to the races from there. I’ve been blessed to have worked with hundreds of wedding and commercial clients across North America. Just under three years ago my wife and I had our first son. That little person entering the world really pushed me to start documenting my own family more. From there my passion exploded for family photography and I now focus the majority of my work on that genre.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Honestly, I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have had a path free of much adversity. I credit a lot of that to a handful of photographers who have invested their time and energy into helping develop me. Early on I was mentored by a top-end fashion/wedding photographer in California, a world-class photographer from Canada and several other photographers local to Texas who are now good friends. Much like other professions, the road to success is much easier to navigate if you’re surrounded by an awesome community and I’ve had that in spades.
Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
I’m a lifestyle family photographer. I specialize in portrait, maternity, family and newborn sessions. I’d like to think I’m most known for making the photography process a relaxed experience. Sessions don’t need to be high stress (even with littles). I do my very, very best to make it an hour or so where you can forget about the hundred other things you have going on in life and just get to spend time with your people. I’d say what gives me the biggest sense of happiness from the business is having families come back year in and year out. There are so many photographers to choose from and for them to let me document their families as they grow and get older means a lot to me.
Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years? Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc?
The photography industry is one that has evolved a lot since I’ve entered it a little over ten years ago. Camera tech has improved, how clients prefer to receive their images has changed and the talent level of photographers, in general, has risen. A lot of things have and will no doubt continue to change at breakneck speed but at the end of the day, clients want authentic images of the people they love. That’s the whole point of this thing we call photography. Regardless of how fancy the camera phones get in people’s pockets being able to provide a high-level service where you can capture truly real moments will keep the industry going strong.
