Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandi Renee Day.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Brandi Renee Designs is a family business that started with my husband, John Day, a general contractor and myself creating a design and remodeling business in South Padre Island, Texas in 1990. We raised our three daughters in our business and two daughters are partners in our current interior design business and one is the Spa Director at the Gaylord Hotel in Southlake. We were doing well on the island until the barge accident right after 9/11 that took out our main bridge to the island. We decided to relocate back to the Dallas area where we were raised.
I was a designer for Robb & Stucky in Southlake then after they closed, I worked at Ethan Allen where I met my clients, Wally and June Blume who I went to work for designing and furnishing three homes for them around both in the states and in Costa Rica. My creative mind is always on overdrive and I created a unique flip flop shoe that my clients loved and they invested in my design concept of the flip flops and along with my interior design business we created a line of bedding, custom lampshades, pillows and runners for home décor. After several years of attempting to launch these products via the internet, we got caught in the massive change in how people are shopping. Our system was created on the old platform and just did not take off the way that was needed to support our growing infrastructure. Timing is everything and in 2015 we made the decision to refocus all our attention on our continually growing interior design and custom window treatment business in which we have continually won awards for our work.
We restructured our interior design business to be our total focus in 2016 and have worked to find online lead options to connect with the incredible amount of people that are moving into the DFW area. The old ways of finding new clients from referrals and print advertising are only a very small portion of our growth. We have our own drapery/upholstery workroom and are experts in the window treatment field. This allows us to serve not only the public but also many designers that want excellent quality soft goods such as window treatments, bedding, pillows, etc. We have won awards for our work consistently every year and recently won another award for “Ingenious Installation” on an amazing full home remodel we just finished in Colleyville, Texas.
We love to stay connected with the fans of our work on Facebook where we post our projects and some behind the scenes shots showing how we create some of the amazing interiors for our clients. We use the most up to date technology to create computer renderings of our client’s homes to show them how we envision the finished rooms will be. I love this technology since I used to sketch and paint the renderings and when they asked for a color or fabric change, I cringed! Now, with a click of a key, I can change everything. We believe that a picture is worth a thousand words. Our incredible growth is based on our core belief that, “Until the client is thrilled, we are not finished.”
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our road has been a long and winding road with many twists and turns. One of the largest, unforeseen issues that moved us to change our location to Dallas was the bridge being hit by the barge in South Padre Island right after 9/11. We thought it was a terrorist attack on our area but no, it was a problem with the person guiding the barge that took out our only bridge to the island. In retrospect, this created a move to the DFW area that has been one of the best decisions we ever made.
Our other challenge was the very quick change in how people buy goods and services. The internet is now the main way that people find what they need. We invested in a technology that was outdated as we were completing our online catalog and our format did not work with the new mobile technology.
Learning new ways of connecting with potential clients in a constantly changing world is a continual challenge.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Brandi Renee Designs – what should we know?
Brandi Renee Designs is a family run interior design business that specializes in residential interiors mostly. We specialize in window treatments, custom bedding, pillows and unique applications to furniture and walls. We are especially knowing for our in-house drapery workroom and our company has won many awards for our work.
I am really proud of my team which includes not only my daughters and husband but awesome employees that love our work and appreciate every day how great it is to assist our clients in creating their perfect home or office that reflects their own style and personality. We have a great reputation for service beyond expectation.
We are different from many designers since we have our own drapery and upholstery workroom and assist not only our own clients but we create the stunning designs from other designers that use our services. We have worked consistently to stay on top of cutting edge technology that allows us to create computer renderings that show our clients what their rooms could like when we are done. They say a picture is worth a thousand words and I agree.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe that our success has been a result of our business ethics and always doing every part of our job to the absolute best of our ability and utilizing the creative abilities of all of the members of our team. We stay on top of all new products and ideas by attending conventions and always seeking opportunities to enter our projects in competitions that allow others to see the unique and beautiful finished interiors. Another great quality is our goal of making all of our clients’ special and never forgetting that this is their home and it is our job to make their visions come alive at all cost.

- Depending upon the area you live in and the expertise of your designer, a person can expect to pay from $50.00 per hour to $150.00 per hour for design services.
