Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Blaylock.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Brenda. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Grandeur Design came to be when two young ladies who were forging their own trail separately in the design world were brought together by fate and a true blessing from God.
I had a beautiful interiors store that offered everything for the home from furnishings to accessories and more, along with having a coffee house in one part of my store. I wanted people to come in and relax and enjoy a cup of coffee while they shopped. Well, one lovely day a sweet young man came in to get a cup of coffee and we talked awhile and he said, “You have got to meet my wife. Y’all are so much alike and would really connect over your passion for design”. A few days later Susan and I were introduced to each other. I learned that she was providing in-home design and doing full blown construction and renovation. We were so excited and interested in what the other one was doing in their business and we spent the next month sharing our passions and stories about what we are doing in the design world and how we wanted to grow. At that time, we agreed to work on a design project together. We had an amazing time doing this and we were so impressed with each other’s talents and drive and business savvy that we then decided to go into business together so that we could offer our clients everything under the sun in the design world.
Fast-forward 17 years later we have the most amazing partnership where we love and respect each other. We have had multiple retail stores, a wholesale custom bedding company that sold to stores all over the country, and we own our own manufacturing company that manufactures drapery, beddings, beds and custom soft goods. We live and breathe design!! It is who we are and what we are blessed to be able to do. But, what has been the icing on the cake through this whole journey is that Susan and I are the best of friends and we have raised our kids, and yes our husbands, together. We have been blessed in so many ways and thank God every day that he allows us to continue to do what we love with who we love.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Now here comes the part that every good story has and that is the struggle to get where you are. Our journey has been filled with the good, the bad, and the ugly, for sure! We always say that we could have a series of novels telling the stories about what we have gone through, dealt with, and experienced in the last 17 years.
We have come close to closing our doors a few times either from the economy bottoming out or from dealing with customers who would not pay their final bills once it was all delivered and in place or with employees that didn’t turn out to be the best thing for our business and the worse one was the illness of Susan’s husband that put our business on hold while he fought for his life and God graced us with healing and miracles. Each time we were dealt a bad card we chose to forge through and rely on God and as He always does He has shown us that if we work hard and give of ourselves and trust him He will bless us with another day in design. He has also shown us it is about what we do for others that brings us the most joy and where the blessings are the most fruitful.

Grandeur Design is a multi-faceted design company. We offer full-service design and construction detailing. We are there from the beginning of the planning phase to the final install of the project.
Our full-service design encompasses us creating a one-of-a-kind design concept for our client’s specific style. We research and make all fabric and furnishing selections along with accessories, lighting, rugs and art. There isn’t one thing in our client’s home that we cannot find or create for them. Along with these selections we also design all window treatments and beddings but the best part is that we manufacture these items in house. This allows us to have a hands-on approach and to be able to add more details and elements to the items during this process. We also buy our fabrics directly from mills all over the world. We do this so that our projects are unique and special for our client’s taste and style.
Next, we offer construction detailing which is making all the exterior and interior selection for the construction phase. This entails lighting, flooring, countertops, hardware, tile, paint, and so much more.
We love it when we are part of the entire project from beginning to end. There are so many details and selections that feed off of each and to ensure that the project is perfect we know it is best when we get to create it from the beginning and to make sure that each selection has a rhyme and reason for being made and part of the design.
